Quote:Wow, big no to this one! And yikes, it seems like you want a lot of the female characters written out of Arrow(mostly joking , but you did mention for almost all of them that they shouldbe written out if they continue the way they have with them). Felicity is actually my favorite character on the show(followed very closely by Oliver). I can't believe so many people dislike her. I know lots of people and especially comic fans don't like angst, but I truly don't understand why so many people want her removed from the show completely. She's such a fun character and her and Oliver have such great chemistry(even in the scenes where they are not in a romantic relationship). I'm fairly new to the Arrow, and when I started looking at some of the boards and threads related to Arrow, I was really surprised at the amount of hate Felicity and the Oliver/Felicity relationship get online. The Arrow Reddit is actually toxic with it(and with the hate for seasons 3 and 4 too). I don't understand why people watch shows that they don't even enjoy anymore.
Quote:Also, I don't think she has lost her purpose on the show just because she has lost a little of her moral high ground at all. She is still a very good person and a very important part of the team. I love seeing her use her computer skills to help the team, and I think she always has really good advice for Oliver and the others. Even after her experiences with Helix, she was a great help with getting Oliver to move on from his past and at helping him with his problems. She is one of a very, very small group of people that can get Oliver to back down and change his mind about some of his more questionable decisions and actions, and i think she is very much still needed. Plus, she adds a lot of much needed light and hope to the show.
I hear you and I used to agree with you. I loved Felicity and defended her many times. But the CONSTANT two step forwards, two steps back with her and Oliver has just gotten old.
When they got back together at the end of this season it should have been a "Aww! I love them together" moment, but for me anyway all I could think was "Well, this is going to end poorly."
Neither of them has changed and they are doomed to have the same problems. And it feels like a rehash rather than something fresh and exciting for the audience.
It also reminds me of why they killed Gwen Stacy. They said Peter had gotten to the point where either they were going to get married or she was going to have to die.
But Laurel is dead, so they can't kill Felicity even though they need to. It's basically a no win situation for the show.
I can understand all that and I can see why you feel that way. I guess I just have a bigger tolerance for relationship drama than a lot of people(and can even enjoy it if things work out in the end for the couple). After all, my favorite comic relationship is the one between Gambit and Rogue. But still, I actually think they have both changed this season. In fact, the whole point of this season is that Oliver has and is changing and is starting to try to let go of his past and do things differently. That and Felicity's experiences with Helix are why the tentative reconciliation was even possible. I think the writers are slowly and patiently rebuilding the relationship and having Oliver finally move on with his life and start dealing with some of his issues. I think season 6 is going to continue with both of those things. I think they have been playing the long game with their relationship, and I wouldn't be surprised if Oliver and Felicity stay together and maybe even get married next season.
But whatever, I can be a bit of a hopeless romantic at times, and if I like a fictional couple and enjoy their chemistry together, I will keep rooting for them until the end.
