Unfortunately, this controversial move happened in 2012. His wife and kids were wiped from continuity as if they never existed. Jade does not exist in the New 52 and has yet to show up. As I recall, turning Alan gay caused major backlash from the fanbase. Most who loved the change, mostly came from the gay community.

Recommended stories are:

-The Golden Age by James Robinson

-There is an excellent team-up with Batman in Detective Comics 784-786 called "Made of Wood".

-Green Lantern/Sentinel: Heart of Darkness

-Anything BEFORE 2012

They were doing away with the JSA characters and legacy characters and they asked Robinson if he could reboot them. Robinson tried his best to merge characterstics of characters together, so you had Alan Scott/GL, but he was an amalgamation of Obsidian and Jade and Alan Scott. Jay Garrick of Earth 2 was a merger of Wally West and Jay Garrick and Impulse. The Atom was a merger of Nuklon and Damage, as well as Al Pratt.

It was a neat experiment that I kind of liked. It was an interesting take and I'm kind of sad that we'll never see it again.
