(Edit: I initially marked this original post as "no spoilers" but to avoid confusion - as the ensuing conversation went into spoiler territory - I've checked the spoilers box on this original post.)

I just wanted to mention that the Black Bolt series has finished its first arc, and in my opinion has proven to be a book worth sticking with. Saladin Ahmed is a writer with heart. You may not like Christian Ward's art, but I don't think you'll find it amateurish or sloppy.

I've been waiting like 40 years for a Black Bolt series, and now that I have one, and it's good, I won't willingly give it up. This is almost the only Marvel book I'm buying.

Saladin Ahmed has an actual story to tell. He's developing Black Bolt as a character, and has given him a small supporting cast which will follow him into the next arc. And hey, this is a writer who actually remembered Black Bolt has electron-manipulation powers! Too often all we get is flight/strength/invincible whisper.

I know the art may be a turn-off (even though it's masterful in its own way) but if you can get past it or happen to like it, this book may surprise you.

I hate it.

Black Bolt should not speak. That should be like the cardinal rule for ever using the character unless he's blowing crap up with his voice. We mere mortals should not know what the King is thinking. I don't even think we should ever really get a feel for what type of personality he really has.

His whole not talking shtick is great. He's like the angel Metatron whose voice isn't meant for human ears or Zeus whose real form destroyed Dionysus's mother Semele.

To have him speak is to make him a commoner and robs him of his majesty and his mystery. He should be better than that.
