All of those reasons are why I think he was generally a horrible character for decades. Nor do I like what you attribute to kings, and especially shouldn't have godlike qualities. The only king I ever liked was Aragorn because he was for all intents and purposes a commoner (and because his story pretty much ended at the crown).

I'm not saying he's a GOOD king. I'm pretty sure you and I have had countless discussions about just how awful Black Bolt and the royal family are values wise.

I'm not even getting into my issues with him on an ethical/moral level. He's a horribly boring character, unless you can get into his mind and see how he thinks. Unless you can do that, he's nothing but a plot device. On top of this, he was stoic as heck, which makes it worse. This is why he tended to always have Medusa speak (and think) for him.

I'm fine with him:

1. Being boring
2. Being a cheap plot device
3. Being dumb
4. Being a man with horrible values
5. Being someone we don't know very well
6. Not being a protagonist in an ongoing series

What I'm not fine with is:
1. Him speaking (unless it's to blow something up)
2. Making him a traditional hero
3. Taking away his kingship

He works as a mute king. They shouldn't use him unless he's mute and he's a king.

I just don't want him to speak
