Not much of a surprise but I am interested in what else he might reveal tomorrow. Honestly I will pick up both books but it would maybe have been better to have at least one recognizable long-time (Pre-New) Avengers on the squad. I am worried that they will appear to be pretenders to the Avengers name and that it could be unclear why they are soldiering on as Avengers. If it is Cap in the Ronin outfit well....that would go a long way towards making them AVENGERS. Excited for the new direction and structure of the marvel universe but also missing:

Thor
Hawkeye
Scarlet Witch
Vision
Quicksilver
Black Panther
Firebird (El Espirita)
Pulsar (Cap Monica)

as Avengers. You could make a team of the great Avengers characters left out of both books. Also looks like my hopes for my favorate FFer to become an Avenger (Invisible Woman) shall not be. Maybe the stars will align and Bendis or someone will pic up that old Gatherer storyline again could have ended in something as cool as the Age od Apocalypse.

Que Sera Sera

OK, so I can accept line-ups of:

New: Echo, Ronin, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Iron Fist, Power Man, and Spider-Man (Luke's leading)

Mighty: Iron Man, Wasp, Black Widow, Wonder Man, Ms. Marvel, Sentry, Ares, and possibly Yellowjacket

Young: Patriot, Hulkling, Wiccan, Speed, Hawkeye, Stature, and Vision

FF: Thing, Human Torch, Black Panther, Storm

What do you think about that?

If it were not for Doc Strange this team would be pretty weak.

Looks like we will have a slew of street level/ underground kind of stories here.

i just hope mystical kind of stories may be the focus..but I'm almost positive that it will be a lot of Race/ Cage working out his leadership style.

It may be interesting, but i hope to see some good classic based stories from mighty.

They have the team name of Avengers regardless, trust me they are not going to be going up against Electro's and thugs. They are the Avengers regardless which means GREAT villains and hopefully great storylines. And with them together working as a UNIT, they are far from a street level team.

Lets not forget that Dr. Strange can just cast a spell here or there and power up some people if need be lol

What's interesting about the new line-up, with the exception of Spider-man, all of them were never members of the Avengers prior to Avengers Dissasemble.

We don't know who Ronin is ...... speculation is that it might either by Steve Rogers or Tony Stark (with further speculation that Steve Rogers maybe Iron Man).

Spider-man was inducted by Captain America himself as a reserve member in Avengers #316 (1990).

Luke Cage/Power Man as the new leader is an interesting choice and I believe that he will make a great leader.

The New New Avengers line-up has more of a feel of the Defenders than the Avengers ...... maybe because Dr. Strange is involved.

Whatever the case, I believe I picked a perfect time to return to Marvel Comics.

hmmmmm, so it might be like this -

Cage - leader, fitting into a new role
Spidey - Team brains, technician,
Doc Strange - powerhouse
Wolverine - loose canon, secret weapon
Spider-Woman - loner? spy
Iron Fist - the financial backbone?
Echo - samurai
Ronin - the wiseman, advisor to the leader (assuming it is Cap)

Underpowered compared to what, exactly? Traditionally, the Avengers hasn't really been about power-levels. Even so, this team should certainly be more capable than any of the classic eras.

Bendis always writes Spidey as a rookie who cracks jokes.

The Mighty Avengers lineup is very powerful, possibly the most powerful ever; like the X-Men, you can write good stories with any kind of power level group you have, really.

I'm not doubting that Strange would be able to do that, but HAS he ever done that in the past? Like did he ever do that for his fellow Defenders, Nighthawk or Hellcat?

Something else which was brought up back when the New Avengers first arrived 2 years ago, I said then that they might be in the same league as the old team powerwise, if Tony Stark gave some of the street level members super weapons.

Well the idea of some street level heroes getting super weapons works just as well know, with the exception that they would this time get them from Steven Strange instead of Tony Stark.
