I don't know if this is a spoiler, (with the issue being out almost a week) but I checked the box just in case. I hope it's not a spoiler to have "The Spell of Tartashi" in the subject line. \:\-\)

Anyway in New Avengers 30 Dr. Strange put a spell of Tartashi on everyone in the room to alivieate any fears about Clint Barton's intentions. As mentioned in a few earlier posts, Jessica Drew seemed to like it least, while Peter Parker (and Jessica & Luke's baby) were seemingly enjoying the enchantment.

It made me wonder, how would other current and former Avengers have done with that? How do you think the following would have done in placed in that Tartashi spell:

Ares?
Black Panther?
Carol Danvers?
Captain America?
Hank Pym?
Natasha?
Hercules?
Quicksilver?
Hulk?
Wanda Maximoff?
Tigra?
Wasp?
She-Hulk?
Sentry?
Thor?
Tony Stark?

Any others you can think of?

It's difficult to say. I'm not even sure how the spell works.

Does it interpret betrayal based on a specific target(s), the caster, or what? For instance, since Strange cast the spell, does it adversely affect those planning to betray Strange, himself? Or does it adversely affect those planning on betraying a specific person or people? Was there something in the way Strange cast the spell that determined whether or not any of them were planning to betray the others?

Or does the spell simply detect a person's general nature to be deceitful and adversely affect them?

If the latter...

> Ares?
More severely affected than Jessica. Maybe coughing up some blood. Maybe worse. Of course, I have to wonder if his godly nature would be somewhat resistant.

> Black Panther?
Might even make him feel better.

> Carol Danvers?
She'd probably have a similar reaction to Jessica's.

> Captain America?
Might even make him feel better.

> Hank Pym?
No noticeable affect.

> Natasha?
Probably on the order of Jessica's.

> Hercules?
No noticeable affect.

> Quicksilver?
Maybe worse than coughing blood.

> Hulk?
No noticeable affect.

> Wanda Maximoff?
Strange is suddenly smacked to the floor in some freaky and mysterious backlash, providing a future adventure hook.

> Tigra?
Maybe a petit mal seizure.

> Wasp?
A little queasy, but not as pronounced as Jessica's was.

> She-Hulk?
A little dizziness. She is a lawyer after all. Natch!

> Sentry?
The Void suddenly appears and wipes out several square blocks. Heck if I know.

> Thor?
Feeling pretty groovy. Again, would he be somewhat resistant?

> Captain America? filled with pure joy before scratcing frnatically at his coffin
> Hank Pym? stomach cramps
> Natasha? convulsed
> Hercules? Confused
> Quicksilver? the runs

> Wanda Maximoff? screamed NO MORE AUNTS and aunt may and a billion others disappear
> Tigra? Have sex with someone

> She-Hulk? have sex with someone

I think you're misinterpreting it. The spell seemed to only apply to the given situation - as in, who here is earnest about their desire to help in the current mission.

If the spell applied to anyone who has lied or done unsavory things than it would have had a much greater affect on Wolverine and Spider-Woman, also, Iron Fist's actions towards Iron Man were extremely duplicitous, so unless the spell has anti-registration leanings, I think it would have to only apply to the specific situation for which it was cast.
