Doubt that anybody here read this, but the latest issue of the " kiddie " Avengers title had Hank Pym appear to help out against a mind-controlled Giant-Girl ( a.k.a. Janet Van Dyne, wearing the old Giant-Man costume ). The issue offers a neat alternate take on the two characters; instead of a trite, incongruous vengeance motive, socialite Janet looks into Hank's Pym Particle tech because she's bored with her rich girl life and wants to help people. In flashback, Hank initially offers to give her shrinking powers, but she immediately appropriates the tech to grow to giant-size.

All in all, it's a very light read, but was incredibly funny; unlike too many Marvel books, this doesn't take its absurdities seriously. In addition to the ludicrous spectacle of Giant-Jan climbing the Empire State Building with Wolverine in hand a la King Kong and Fay Wray, we get the Avengers stopping in to question the Puppet Master ( who is portrayed as a loser honored by being considered a potential threat ), Jan's living father Vernon joking about how there's no revenge motive in this origin ( " My wife's fine! She's at tennis now! " ), and an ending with Giant-Jan apologizing for almost stepping on all the Avengers by getting them all in a hug that inadvertantly cuts off their circulation. I'm definitely going to start picking up this book from here, because it's so damn fun.

I normally see it (always buys it when I see it), but it's frequently NOT displayed with the
other Marvel titles in the shops I visit.

I've ben waiting to see Hank Pym in this series.
Gotta get this issue ASAP.
