Nick Fury is the leader of Hydra- Bendis said it in the new Joe Fridays Would this shock the Marvel U?? Would this change the landscape of the Marvel U? His he the one who betrays the team? The way Bendis is writing this book I would have to say a big YES to all those questions. JC

If you look at the context in which he said it, it was just him rambling and throwing out ridiculous circumstances.... Here's the rest of that line: "Unless he dies at the hand of Hydra leader Nick Fury at the end of #31, or Ultron might make him into a Japanese school girl, or really he's the Beyonder, or... wait, maybe Clint could be Master Chief. I'm writing too many books. " > Nick Fury is the leader of Hydra- Bendis said it in the new Joe Fridays > > Would this shock the Marvel U?? > Would this change the landscape of the Marvel U? > His he the one who betrays the team? > > The way Bendis is writing this book I would have to say a big YES to all those questions. > > JC

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a joke. I don't see how anyone could have interpreted it as being serious once you look at the entire sentence. > > > > Would this shock the Marvel U?? > > Would this change the landscape of the Marvel U? > > His he the one who betrays the team? > > > > The way Bendis is writing this book I would have to say a big YES to all those questions. > > > > JC

" The thing is, in that sentence, he's poking fun of other things that he's writing (hence the "I'm writing too many books"): "Ultron making him into a Japanese school girl" pokes fun at Ultron in Mighty Avengers; "he's really the Beyonder" pokes fun at his making Beyonder a "mutant Inhuman" in Illuminati. So wouldn't it stand to reason the "Hydra leader Nick Fury" is another poke/advertisement to something he's writing? ____________________ ![]() ![]()

> Nick Fury is the leader of Hydra- Bendis said it in the new Joe Fridays I think it was a joke, but I can see BENDIS! writing Fury as having contacted Hydra, joined, and quickly worked himself up into a command position in order to destroy it.

Subject: Naw...c'mon. Be realistic [Re: Joe Casta] Posted Sat Jun 02, 2007 at 08:19:46 pm EDT |

Oh wait, we're discussing comics. Forget the realistic thing. But as everyone said, Bendis threw it out as a joke. Bendis has been very good at keeping upcoming plotlines a secret, and I doubt he'd just throw out the major surprise that will begin a storyline that leads into next summer's big event. PLUS - We all know that Fury left SHIELD because it was corrupt. He knew something big was up and he has chosen to operate from hiding. It's also clear that Tony is on to something fishy at SHIELD as well. Fury as HYDRA leader? I'd rather see Marvel kill off Cap....er, uh, i'd rather see them make a bad guy out of Iron M....wait...oh you get the point. Who really knows? I personally think that Skrulls have assumed high ranking postions in US government and also some established superheroes. It's been going on for a while, the Skrulls are pretty well dug in and it'll be up to Marvel's heroes to stop them next summer. I think one of the characters will turn back into a Skrull at the end of #31 (I made this guess in a thread below, I won't repeat everything I predicted, but I think it's something along those lines). It makes sense the more you think about it. Maybe Tony doesn't know who can be trusted, and that it's a very deep infiltration. He may be trying to root out the Skrulls or trying to determine their plans in the hopes of thwarting them. It could explain SOME of his recent behavior. Or maybe he's a Skrull himself. (Oh, and the Annihilation wave destroyed much of the Skrulls and their bases of operations, but that doesn't mean they hadn't begun this strategem before that occured. If anything, the events of Annihilation probably steps up their efforts).

Seriously, read the whole sentence inclduing the Japanese school girl thing. Those are things fans come up with on the Bendis board. > Nick Fury is the leader of Hydra- Bendis said it in the new Joe Fridays > > Would this shock the Marvel U?? > Would this change the landscape of the Marvel U? > His he the one who betrays the team? > > The way Bendis is writing this book I would have to say a big YES to all those questions. > > JC

Nick Fury as hydra leader does not have the punch of a Captain America #25 on the market that NA #31 is supposed to have.

Bendis has been saying all along that there is something wrong at the heart of Shield and at the heart of Hydra. This never made sense to me because Hydra are the bad guys. Surely if Hydra caught a cold it would be a good thing. I think we will find that Hydra are a wing of Shield, and neither Sheild nor Hydra for the most part really knew that.

I think what was meant by "there is something wrong in the heart of Hydra" is that there are "agents" in Hydra, who aren't looking out for the interests of Hydra, but some other power.
