Now if the last few pages turn out to be some kind of conspiracy. Then all that happened in Avengers: Illuminati #1 makes sense now. This was their payback for what the Illuminati did. Man...everything thy seem to do seems to bite them later. I wonder what in store for the infinity gems and the Beyonder?

Which also reveals that what the Black Panther said was true. They were brought together for a good cause now everything they have done. Is going to backfire on them completely. I hate find out that the Beyonder is behind everything, Civil War, Annhilation and WWH as part of a giant cosmic game that would have the now dead Grandmaster jumping out of his coffin.

He died at the end of Thunderbolts before the Initiative relaunch. Zemo killed him, brought him back and then killed him again.

The Beyonder already came back, as that adventure happened before Secret Wars II. As for the Gems... good question.

Well, the Illuminati's to blame for a lot so far:

Civil War: most of the group was responsible for orchestrating the rise and popularity of the SHRA and it's even been hinted that Iron Man could have been responsible for Nitro's power-boost pre-Stanford.

World War Hulk: they shot Hulk into space.

Skrull Invasion: They convinced the Skrulls that a lot more than a simple military invasion would be needed to take on Earth.

Secret Wars II: the Beyonder was happy playing in his own backyard on Ceres, and they reminded him that its more fun to play with people who think for themselves.

Annihilation: There's been no in-comic connection thus far, but it seems awfully coincidental that they were able to set up Prison 42 just when Annihilus decided to leave the Negative Zone and invade the positive universe. If I recall, Annihilus even mentioned something about getting revenge for Earthlings invading his dimension.

Heck, I'm sure there's others...

The post below answers the question (he died in Thunderbolts recently), but to answer the question here, JLA/Avengers is in-continuity.
