So I really didnt want to buy this issue, but I did anyways. I figured it couldnt be any worse than the first one so I went for it. Im still disliking the characterization of everybody and Spidey is the only one who acts in character for all 5 of his lines. Plenty of action but the art just seems way too cartoonish for me. The only thing I really liked about this issue was that there may be a big consipiracy going on hopefully the bad guy will turn out to be somebody cool that we havent seen yet. I will stay on board, but just for the reveal.

Like the art, fine with the much hated writing,

(Thor looks and is showing great and Valkyrie is sexy as hell so I'm happy)

BUUUUT........

why does it seem like both issues are very short and the fights extremely abbreviated?

It felt like every plot point got one page and no more.

I have to say the final issue of Ultimate Power felt this way too.

Is it something about how Loeb writes?

I can't put my finger on it.

Because every other page was a two page splash of nothing.

This issue so full of nothing it wasn't worth the money and paper it was printed on and Mad's art is not as good as it once was. I think it is all the fancy coloring. It really clashing with his art style.

Also the Spidey, Thor's speech, Hank's overdose, and Wasp's eating disorder bits were awful and just dramatic for drama's sake and unlike what Miller did with Ultimates this feels like fanfiction.

1. Spider-Man's part was completely pointless and added NOTHING to the plot. He was pretty much the only character written not horribly.

2. Hawkeye's way of trying to team up and get info from Spider-Man by shooting him with a paralytic and anesthetic needle? Yeah that would make me want to help out the Ultimates too.

3. Cap leaving a paralyzed 15-16 year old (though according to TWO YEARS LATER, Pete would be 17-18 now, though this isn't completelty Loeb's fault and owes a lot to the Millar/Hitch delays) in the middle of the streets certainly seems out of character too.

4. ZERO progress in who Black Panther is, even though they make a huge deal out of it on the recap page.

5. I'm calling it now: Valkyerie gets her powers by having sex with Thor.

Spiderman has not done well for himself in team books.

Yeah, especially since they've met before and had a conversation. Hawkeye could have just asked Fury for his number. Oh, and remember when Spiderman had a spider sense and could dodge bullets?

I'm not sure about the age thing. Pete hasn't really aged at all and each version of the Ultimates is about a year after the previous. He could be older in this story though. We can't say for sure that it is supposed to run at the same time as Ult. Spiderman.

Joe Mad's art isn't perfect, so it might be hard to pick up: But the one shot Hawkeye made was with the needle, and it seemed to be seeking on Spidey, as in following and it didn't flow in a straight line.
