In New Avengers Annual #2, another of the Illuminati makes an exit from the stage right before the start of Secret Invasion, with Dr. Strange quitting the team as a result of his using black magic in World War Hulk. I find Bendis' portrayal of Strange as quite realistic. Like an alcoholic, one who uses black magic can be expected to fall into temptation again. I'm calling it now: a future Marvel mega-crossover will be the Magic Wars with someone having to fill the role of Sorceror Supreme and entities such as Mephisto, whoever is controlling The Hood, Cytorrak, etc. trying to seize power in the vacuum.

That makes Dr. Strange and Professor X gone in just two weeks of comics from the Illuminati as far as being able to fight in Secret Invasion. Black Bolt was replaced by a Skrull, which leaves Tony Stark, Reed Richards, and Namor.

In Mighty Avengers #8, Tony Stark in his thought bubbles states he does not even trust "my President". (As an aside, the Baxter Building has a password of "MEPHISTO...".)

It's curious to me that Tony Stark as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is able to order a strike on Latveria, with the final page showing jets accompanying the heroes in the invasion, based on evidence that is only a deduction.

I have an idea that Illuminati's every word has some significance, such as the exchange where Professor X claims that he cannot simply use his powers to completely control people. As a rejoinder, there was a claim that eventually people rebel. Thus, I think one of the Skrull agents is using a short-term power of telepathic suggestion to induce people to perform acts they might not have otherwise.

Of the heroes, the most likely to be a Skrull would appear to me to be Jessica Drew. The reason she did not kill Stark when she had the chance was that, as shown in Illuminati, the Skrulls have utter contempt for Stark's technology (pre-Extremis I believe). On the other hand, Marvel has released a promo picture that appears to show Drew and Stark kissing, which would indicate that that possibility should be a fake-out.
