Time for a bit of fun. Kang has disrupted time so that the internet became mainstream in the 50's and this message board was there from the founding of the Avengers. Now imagine you were there to read your favourite / least favourite Avengers moment when it hit the stands. What would you have posted? What would your reaction have been? Would the internet have changed your reaction?

Look, I like the golden age as much as anyone, but Stan Lee isn't fooling anyone with this stealth retcon on Captain America's history. Bucky did NOT die in World War II! He died in a hospital bed, alone after Cap dumped him for Golden Girl in the early fifties. I have the back issues! Don't try and pull some "Oh, he was frozen in an iceberg since WWII!" bull. There are plenty of stories with Captain America after the war. He could have just been in retirement and decided to come out after seeing the Avengers in action. But no, Stan had to try and be clever (and by try I mean fail) and have him be frozen in ice. How does that even work? Wouldn't he have DIED from the lack of oxygen? He's not Superman!

If you're reading this Stan, Just because you renamed the company doesn't mean you get to ignore the history of Timely and Atlas. DC had the Golden Age Flash use his backstory when he returned. It's not that hard to go look up the 40s info! Roy Thomas has a great webzine on the subject, Alter Ego! Man. Roy'd make a great comic writer.

I'd bet he could fix this retcon madness.

WHAT!?!? Iron Man, Thor, and Giant-Man leave and Captain America replaces them with three barely powered VILLAINS? You've gotta be kidding me! It's like, who needs a 30 foot giant, we've got a dude with a bow and arrow! Who needs a scientific genius in an invincible suit of armor, we have some chick in red tights who does magic! Who needs the God of Thunder, please we have a Eurpean guy who runs fast! Who's great idea was that? These guys aren't the Avengers? What's next, the Fantastic Four ditching the Thing for a big, green woman? The X-Men losing the Beast and Ice-Man for a little Canadian and a fuzzy blue guy? Mark my words, in 100 issues the originals will be back and no one will remember these losers!

Instead of that plain-Mary Jane Peter Parker's Aunt May keeps trying to unload on Peter, some idiot writer is gonna have him married to a supermodel. I just hope they introduce Mary Jane Watson soon so that can't happen.

Everyone knows Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and the others could never be a team anyway. That's COMPLETELY out of character. And to have the Hulk in clown make-up! Obviously they have no respect for the months of history the character has built up. It was a slap in the face to have them on a team to begin with.

I for one say good riddance, welcome to the new Avengers.

Thats what the letter colums were for..they were full of rants and raves about a certain direction a fan or grouop of fans didnt like. It just wasn't as quick..and now that i think about it, the letter colums left when the internet became more popular.

Now that we have finally gotten over all the "star casting" with Thor, Hulk, and Ironman just to make money we can finally see what's been obvious all along - there is only one team and that is the Fantastic Four.
