Still voting for 1 Avenger title per week instead of all 3 at once. Oh well, might as well complete the trifecta, okay?
Secret Avengers 9
It was okay. Not thrilled with the direction of the title but this installment read fine in itself.
The cover was all right. Well, not ALL right as the weapons were misleading - and wrong.
All the other agents are terribly underused - again. Though Beast gets another round of acting as Secret Agent Steve's handler.
More of the same with pages given to John Steele's origin. The difference being we get some substantial triva. His age. His graphic bloodburst jump maneuver. His connection to Erskine and Burstein.
Max/Carter talk was okay.
Steve/Chang fight was dull. At least they each got a fall in which seemed okay.
The skyline in 3D and then in that top panel were cool visuals. The rest of the issue art was okay, & predictably acceptable, enhanced by the even better layouts.
Steve's hostage exchange methods kinda suck.
Steele/Rogers match felt to similar to the earlier fight but this time okay because it had more impact - with Steeles interesting result, for comparisons sake and Steve satisfying line about cheating.
Steele does Ackbar. [http://www.comicboards.com/php/show.php?rpy=avengers-2008112011162205]
Steve does Wolverine. [http://www.comicboards.com/php/show.php?msg=comicbattles-2011012718232130]
Secret Avengers does bloodspillin' X-force. [Though presumably with NO killing, right?]
War Machine does the Invisible Man. [*sigh*]
Zheng Zu does Fu Manchu. [Natch.]
The ending was okay but nothing memorable given this is the penultimate chapter, we probably wont get to see how Jake got in, and that those 3 pages could easily have worked probably better in 1.
I miss my brother.
