The first downtime issue of Adjectiveless Avengers, if nothing else, a possible list of things to have somebody(on-team) at least make note(in-title) of any/all of these...

1 Mention Cage runs TBolts with Dark Avengers (and nanites still in use).
2 Mention Echo died.
3 Mention Flux is an honorary member.
4 Mention if that was THE Agatha Harkness in Transia.
5 Mention the name of the Top Cop agency.
6 Mention Scott Lang and Jack Hart status.
7 Mention there's no such thing as Pet Avengers in this reality.
8 Mention arrangement or indifference with Blue Marvel.
9 Mention Quake and Nick Fury II were let go from SHIELD (okay that one is more a pipe dream),
10 Mention what Thor, Cap and Iron Man are doing 'right now' in their titleverses (not to mention last appearance in Avengers Assemble) for better shared universe enjoyment.

Or do other danglers need nipping in the bud first?

Can't remember where I read it but the Top Cop Agency is the Avengers. Steve forgoes the idea of SHIELD and HAMMER, ie big agencies that can't possibly be monitored and controlled, and uses smaller teams of Avengers to do the job instead, hence why there were/are so many Avengers teams when he took the Fury role. It may have been in an interview with Bendis even. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Then are all the SHIELD style agents working for the Avengers?

Yeah. Confusing.

[BTW fire Quake he subordinance to Cap is doubly annoying if that is the case Which technically he was already her 'boss' twice over.]

And if that is the excuse to calling Dum Dum and Rachel being granted Avengers Priority, over in Cap's title, it is still not satisfactorily confirmed in-story and not pleasing logistics to boot.

Does SHIELD even have the same acronym, and by extension, the same international purview? If so, what of all those countries his Secret Avengers 'invaded' early in the run? Seems dumb that every country, those times, would (apparently) not be consulted with the Top Cop intentions considering the degree of danger with those crises.

Argh. Pet peeve scars opening...

I miss the good ol' days...when the Avengers were simply a superhero team. Not a feakin' franchise or a replacement for SHIELD.

It worked great when it was Avengers and West Coast Avengers but there was a purpose to having two teams and they weren't based in the same geographic area.

Cage's Avengers never felt like Avengers to me...neither does Secret Avengers. Cage's team was more like the Defenders.

SHIELD worked for decades. It served the purpose it was created for perfectly. The Avengers was created for another purpose altogether and it does neither property justice to try and use one to do the other's job.

SHIELD needs to return and the Avengers need to downsize or at least have a reason for having all these teams aside from "we think it'll sell".

You have to know that SHIELD still has a branch working secretly behind the scenes even now.The ultimate undercover orginization of the spy world and Fury(or his son) always have something going on that nobody else is aware of at the moment.Perfect cover right now-the world thinks Rogers is the top cop but wait until all the cards are seen.I am so sure of it that I am willing to bet Gernots life savings that we find thats the case eventually.SHHH-dont tell him I want it to be a surprise when you collect his money. \(devil\)

Not just early in the run. And let's not think for a second that this wasn't always standard operating procedure. The Avengers have been doing this since the beginning.

It's really the only way to be heroes.

Exactly. I seem to remember Cap's Kooky Quartet invading Latveria and tangling with Dr Doom waaaay early in the series, just as one example.

Gotta love the Essentials collections.

Or the West Coast Avengers invading Hungary (or another communist country) to find out what happened to Hank's first wife.

Hmmm... maybe Hawkeye is the common denominator in terms of invading countries...
