This is what you get when the orginally story is written without any plot development. Disassembled was based on the desire to pull the Avengers apart, and the "wanda goes crazy" was made the mechanism for it. There was no original plot development or concept for why this "crazy" idea came about. Crusade tried to give a reason for the awful plot of Dissassembled. The whole thing is horribly convoluted because the first story was so badly conceived in the first place.

Bendis had to get rid of the vision and wanda as their dull back story made them unwritable. Sending wanda nuts due to over extending herself during the red mist storyline was one way to do that which did not require the reader to stretch back thirty years to understand it.

I'm thinking of changing my name to bendisfan as I think I'm the only one left.

Well, that might have worked if the Dissassembled storyline ever referenced the red mist storyline. Bendis is great at major concepts and at specific point in time interactions, but the follow through and plot structure inbetween aren't there.

And I never considered the Vision and SW to have dull back stories. I don't think they fit into the team concept Bendis had in mind... which right from the get go was dealing with conspiracies etc.

I certainly agree with you about their back stories-- theirs is about the most interesting of the Avengers, imo. However, I would think Vision would fit the conspiracy angle, to a tee. But he could have been thought of as expendable collateral damage.

I agree - for those who haven't read it, the original Vision & Scarlet Witch mini-series does a great job of pointing out just how much these two are inter-connected to the shared universe - culminating in the reveal that Magneto is Wanda's birth father.

Wasn't there a Disassembled-era interview where Bendis said he asked Queseda for a list of characters he could kill to wipe away the old guard? Seems to me I remember him reacting with glee about how many characters (and with big names) were on that list.

The idea of a "kill list" does seem familiar... but I'm not sure that it had to do with Bendis/Disassembled. It does seem familiar though.
