No really idea either. Since it's mainly Avengers vs Xmen, they didn't want to bring in the rest of the FF expect for Thing whose a New Avenger. It would make sense for him and Tony to work on the Phoenix thing but you know how comics work. Everyone in there own bubble.

He was probably in his lab going through the data of the Phoenix which Beast may have provided him with.
He's always been a scientist before a super-hero because that's his greatest strength and I doubt his stretching power would have been much use.

I'm with the guys calling for caution. Don't use a weapon you don't fully understand, especially against a force you don't fully understand.

Also, good for Tony for calling out Cap on his hypocrisy (for want of a better word) about secret meetings. Especially since it seems to be about Cap's friendship with Namor. It seems like where Namor is concerned, Cap is his enabler.

It's funny how Cap tells Reed that using the gems were not even being hinted at when they were discussing just that before Reed walked into the room.
In addition, IMO, if Marvel did Thor right, Strange or Namor would be out of the Illuminati so fast, replaced with the God of Thunder. He's sacrificed so much more for the Earth than those two put together. Or maybe he would disagree with some (most) of the Illuminati's decisions...

Well I took that to mean that Xavier was being sarcastic when he asked Stark why he didn't use an infinity gem. Tony had just asked "why don't you switch his brain off?" and Charles snapped back with "why don't you use an infinity gem on him?". I think that Cap took it to mean that Charles wasn't seriously considering it.

There's an even better reason to keep Thor out of it. Everyone else there is something of a leader in his area/world. Thor is second to Odin. The Illuminati probably doesn't want Odin involved with them, and keeping it a secret from him would be problematic if Thor were a member.

I'm not sure I agree with choosing to not use the gems, but I suppose there are still other avenues to pursue.
And since when does Tony have three doctorates? Are they honorary? I don't think I like the Dr. Stark idea. Tony is too busy to get a PhD.
