I flipped through the issue but didn't really read it, there was an awesome appearance by Bats in it though. See, Sinestro has been creating his own Corp (the Sinestro Corp) to battle the Green Lanter Corp. In this issue, we had a Sinestro ring (exactly like a GL's but its yellow and produces yellow images) select Batman because he instills great fear into people. For one panel we see what Bats would look like as a Sinestro Corp, and it looked pretty frickin cool. Wish I had a scan to post of it, might try to find it later. Bats fights it off though, so it goes and selects someone else. A nice Bats appearance, if I do say so myself...

If it was checking out Gotham, wouldn't the likes of Scarecrow (who lives for fear) and Joker (Who more people must be afraid of than Batman since they KNOW he kills) be eligible? Or what about Phobia...?

I think Batman has a leg up on them as not only is he more effective than them, he cultivates it better. Scarecrow relies on gas, Phobia her powers. Joker's just nuts.

Fair enough on the first two, but aren't we talking how much fear they they generate as themselves? People are bed-wettingly scared of the Joker based on his reputation alone.

I am sure its a cool image but could someone please tell Johns to lay of the Nazi baby killing and to stop trying to tie Batman in to the green lantern. Johns just doesn't get Batman and every time he writes him we see some of the stupidest moments ever.

And wouldn't a Sinestro ring select OTHER qualities besides fear-inducing? If fear-inducing was its only criteria, wouldn't those Batman fears be selected, too?

That would include his entire Rogues' Gallery, and perhaps several of his allies (unless they made Batman more trusting in this new continuity). As such, wouldn't Superman, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman (especially as she's been shown to kill) be "more" worthy of owning such a ring?

As a Green Lantern ring seeks out honest and fearless people, so should a Sinestro ring seek out those who are DISHONEST and fear-inducing.

True, but it's not something Joker generally intends by in large. Batman wants to create a mythic image to put the fear of God into criminals. Joker doesn't care about the fear he creates. In fact, it's incidental to his main goal, convincing Batman about 'the joke'.

Others use fear as a direct weapon through meta or chemical means, but no one relies, utilizies and understands the nuance of fear on a regular basis better than Batman, IMO.

I'd disagree with this even if only based on the recent Dini Joker/Robin story. Bruce relates in the flashback about how he's noticed that the Joker revels in the fear his showman-like entrances create amongst ordinary people, and has a knack for spotting the person who is most scared of him, and focussing all his lethal attentions on them. He's an artist of fear.

Man, the possibilities are completely cool...along with the 'sinestro' bat costume (hot).

And remember, Bruce was also targeted by the yellow fear bug...I think that could play out at some point too. At least do a WHAT IF with bats donning the yellow ring vs green ringers. Goes rogue! he and Hal face off...lol...

Actually, we already know that Dick Grayson was one of the likely candidates in line for Abin Sur's ring, but was too young, so was passed over.

Batestro versus Nightring anyone? \:\)

Dick being considered for a Green Lanter Ring was in Action Comics Weekly #642. Other candidates were Clark Kent and Boston "Deadman" Brand. He was too young, but years later for reasons I can't really recall, the ring granted all the potential candidates a brief burst of power they missed out on.
