Is the Ostrander and Mandrake "Grotesk" storyline that ran through Batman #659 - #662 a self-contained, stand alone story? Does it relate to the recent Grant Morrison storyline in any way?

It was self-contained and didn't relate to what Morrison was doing. I think editorial decided to give Morrison/Kubert a break and allow them to catch up to any deadlines they might be missing.

Was the Ostrander arc any good?

I personally was hoping for a good story since I know both creators are capable of one but it really felt like your typical fill-in done to pass the time. Not recomended, unless you're a Mandrake fan since the art was nice.
