A buddy of mine told me that the batman and detective comics take place on different universes in the dc multiverse. So the batman in detective is not the same batman in batman is this true?

"Batman" and "Detective" take place in the same universe, as does "Nightwing" and "Robin".

"All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder" takes place in a different universe to the others.

Seriously, what's the difference? For all intents and purposes, when they introduced "different timelines", they were just re-introducing the Multiverse, but a lot of fans haven't realized that yet.
