My respose to the new batsuit is diverse. I liked the more simplified look of the last batsuit, but then again that batsuit looked almost like Batman was wearing leather all over. The new batsuit in contrast looks quite utilitarian and realistic on so many levels. The new batsuit has shoulder pads, arm protecion, a much more protective chest plate than the last batsuit, leg protection, blades are more functional by being retractable and apparently for even more protection some kind of chainmail underneath. The new batsuit looks almost like something a soldier in the near future would wear. It looks like Batman is wearing enough protection to protect him even from direct shots, except on the face. He should really cover his chin, maybe the reason he does not do this is because then he would not be able to breathe right. \:\-\)

What do you think of this?

Get rid of the cape, get rid of the belt, replace the bat helmet with a military helmet with night vision googles, get rid of the bat symbol, give him the M4 carbine firearm and you got the soldier of the future. \:\-D

You think he looks like a crazy futuristic soldier? Is that because of how I photoshopped it? Or just because of the general design?

That was kind of the point in Batman Begins. If you recall, his body- armored suit was based on military applications which Waynetech designed.

I'm not sure why Hollywood is so afaid of using black and gray. If done right, it won't look silly.

Just because of the general design, although your alterations makes it look more like the attire of a futuristic soldier.

You made a nice altered image. \:\-D

Your image does look better, except then the cowl does not match with the armor and that bat symbol stands out so much it could be used as a marker for target practice by criminals.

The cowl isn't supposed to match the armor. I'm just making it look more like the comic book black-and-gray Batman, while retaining the realism.

Actually, the reason Batman wears (or used to wear) the yellow symbol is the same reason why Frank Castle wears a huge white skull. Because it draws gunfire, and his chest is covered in kevlar. Take another look at Dark Knight Returns. He mentions it.

Also, the picture that I think you're talking about is WAY too well lit. That much light and a totally white background just kills the picture.

Yeah, I heard about that explanation in the Dark Knight returns for the oval yellow symbol. Not quite sure I buy it, but it makes sense at least for wearing it in the short run, before alternating to another costume.

Yeah, in the darkness the new suit looks much better. Just about everything and anything looks bad in too much light.

Batman actually explains that that is why he wears the yellow in DKR, if you didn't get that. Although he does later switch to the black in the same book, which I suppose doesn't make a lot of sense.

If you haven't read it, pick it up. It's fantastic.

Yeah, I know about the explanation. He uses the yellow symbol so that criminals will target the most protected part of his body which is his chest where his symbol is and not anywhere else. It makes some sense, except if Batman got hit in that same spot lots of times, he would loose the protection there fast.

The oval explaination was put into the books in Shadow Of The Bat #0 and Detective Comics #0, back in 1994. But because artists want to have a Batman without the oval, since it was only added for merchendising, that explaination doesn't work anymore.

I love the new suit because it not only looks really cool but is also very realistic. I can't wait till this movie opens. Here's a video where you can see the suit in action:
