So, Batman's had 4 Robins in 5 years of activity... and Daimian now has to have been concieved prior to Bruce's career as Batman. I have NO idea how this is supposed to work...

...First there's a boy, and he grows up to be a man. Then there's a girl who grows up to be a woman.

The two meet, and SOMETIMES get married. Then a little boy or girl gets found in the cabbage garden, or a stork brings it over.

Thus ends Biology 101. ;\)

Well, according to the flashbacks, I'm not at all sure that's accurate in Daimien's case, anyway. \:\)

The problem is that Daimien's certainly older than Batman's career, as the new timeline demands. Which, actually, could work, but exactly HOW it works is pretty up in the air.

Maybe they'll toss in a bit of the Batman Begins origin that could tidy it up. Bruce Wayne trains a bit with Ra's al Ghul like in the movie, meets Talia while he's training, they begin a relationship, then Bruce learns the truth about Ra's and all that, escaping before Talia learns she's pregnant. Then he maybe continues to travel and train for a few more years before returning to Gotham and becoming Batman, blah blah blah, Damian's now 10, blah blah, becomes Robin. The End. Just a thought.

Here's how it works roughly in my mind:

Batman trains between ages 19-22 or so. During that time he meets Talia and unknowingly conceives a child with her.

He returns to Gotham to fight crime as a clandestine vigilante: The Batman. Age 22.

At around age 25, Batman meets a young 12 year old Dick Grayson whose parents are murdered. Bruce is haunted by the fact that Dick has had the same thing happen to him that happened to Bruce as a child and Bruce wasn't able to stop it.

He takes the kid on as his ward and starts training him.

Age 30, Superman appears as the first "Public Super hero." And batman is finally "outted." This is when the events of Action comics and the new Justice League take place.

Age 32: Dick is 19 and wants to be his own man. He becomes Nightwing and strikes off on his own. Around this time I guess Barbara Gordon could get shot and lose her ability to walk? She may be like 17? Tim Drake becomes the new Robin at age 14-15.

Batman Age 35: Present day. Tim Drake leaves as Robin and becomes Red Robin. Batman discovers he has a son named Damien by Talia and takes him on as the new Robin after being "Dead" for a year?

Nightwing is now 22 or so. Etc. And Super-heroes have officially been around for 5 years.

Does that work?

Barbara was always older than Dick. She was elected to Congress!

...And Superman always beat out Batman by a year! It makes no difference what REALLY happened. It only matters what the writers and editors want now.

It doesn't have to. Maybe there's a two or three month period between Dick leaving and Tim joining. Batman thinks he can rehabilitate Jason Todd but it doesn't work, Joker beats Jason almost to death and Batman fires him for not following orders and being reckless.

Or maybe Batman just does what he did with Stephanie and uses Jason to make Dick jealous and... You know what, there's really no way to write that without it sounding kind of icky.

Of course it could all work. Depending on the characters' ages, you have about a 15 year period where Batman could have been in business.

I feel like he was definitely with Dick for a good while. Like at least 8 of those years.

But there's time for 3 Robins in 15 years.

But that's assuming batman is around 35 or so in the present DCnU. Is that too "old" though for this younger, hipper, wave of heroes. I don't know.

It seems like Superman is definitely now younger than that. Maybe late 20's.

Who said that Bruce is the First and only Batman anyway.

It could be that Bruce himself was a Robin and then when he assumed the Bat Mantle he got Dick, Jason and Damien to replace him as Robin.

4 Robins in 5 years

Didn't Morrison hint that Damien's age had been artificially accelerated in an issue of Batman and Robin?

And I was under the impression that Damien was conceived during/after the famous O'Neil/Adams tale of Batman vs. Ra's al Ghul in the Sahara (Batman #244). At least that's how it appeared in a flashback scene in one of the Morrison/Kubert Batman issues.

(From what I've gathered over the years, Son of the Demon is considered an early Elseworlds tale. And a child secretly given up for adoption wouldn't make much sense as Damien anyway.)

Of course this could all be moot. Who knows what's going to be changed for the reboot...
