Subj: So I Read Batgirl #1...

Took me awhile, but my LCS let me trade in a few of my first printing #1s for a copy of the 2nd printing here, so I got to read it for free.

With how great Batgirl was before, there's no way I couldn't be disappointed. And I knew that going in. That said, to me, the book wasn't bad. It was just mediocre. If I was a person who didn't go in knowing all the history, none of it would have bothered me and it would have been an ok story. Liked the art too.

Since I know the history, and was such an avid fan before, and this isn't Gail Simone's fault because I don't think anyone could have done anything different with the concept of "Let's bring back Babs!" and pleased me, everything in it from characterizations to the tidbits of backstory thrown in just rings false to me. It makes it hard to care about the book or babs. They reimagined a character who didn't need reimagining.

So while the book wasn't poorly constructed, I didn't really see any value in it. Can't see myself picking up another issue unless I get my hands on a free one again.
