Greetings all. I remember reading What If? when I was a kid and finding Captain America's role in the history of the MU always interesting. Trapped in the ice after WW2 and Namor literally throwing him into the modern world if you will. (well at least sending the iceberg to warmer waters where it would melt and Cap would revive.) Of course What If? could ask questions they never could in continuity but it also brought up something thing interesting (I believe it was issue 4 0r 5)(What If the Invaders battled beyond WW2)of the original series. That said I also remember the first time it was mentioned that there were others wearing Cap's costume fulfilling his role as Steve Rogers was belived dead in the 50's till 63..I imagine. Learning that Steve Rogers was the not the only person to wear the costume was shocking at the time, yet it made sense for the circumstances they had created plotwise. Steve Rogers, The Patriot, The Spirit of 76, the Grand Director/Captain America (from the 50s)(he hated Communists) and now from later stories John Walker (US Agent),Winter Soldier/Bucky, the Punisher and sometimes even Hawkeye (or at least he dressed up as him from time to time). My point is that Captain America has not always been Steve Rogers and this seems to be part of the overall story with the character and I for one am enjoying how Brubaker is showing how significant and compelling Steve Rogers was and how his legacy lives on. That said and this being comics its only a matter of time before they bring back Steve Rogers ;\) It should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

If I missed any incarnations of Captain America feel free to correct me or update my knowledge...I think Vance Astro/Marvel Boy/Justice had the shield in the future but I could be wrong on that one.

as always good reading to you all.
