There was an article at Newsarama or one of those sites where DnA stated that they would explain the backstory of the severed Celestial head and how it got where it is.

AFAIK, it has never been explained. We all know how powerful Celestials are, so who would have the power to accomplish this feat? Any ideas?

Well, when the Celestials fought the Asgardian Destroyer, the Destroyer was able to slice off the arms of one of them. It didn't mean anything to the Celestial as it instantly regenerated the arm, but skyfather level power is sufficient to break pieces off a Celestial, although Celestials don't seem to be bothered by injury to their physical forms. Thor threw the Odinsword through Arishem without any effect.

But having his head removed obviously resulted in the death in this one. I just would like to see DnA tell this story soon as he stated they would. I'm very curious about it.

I don't know what all has been stated in the comics about this Celestial. Do we know it died? The "head" just seems to be a mostly empty helmet. It's part of an armor, but does it contain anything else? Remember that the Celestials aren't just the armors they wear.

Another Celestial or group of Celestials?

It's not an empty shell. It has a brain stem and leftover power that Cosmos has used on at least one occasion.
