Subject: Do You Think That Thanos Works Better As a Villain Or As An Anti-Villain/Anti-Hero? Which Do you Prefer? Posted Mon May 21, 2018 at 07:09:09 pm CDT (Viewed 1015 times)

It seems that (Under Starlin.) he's been watered down, and that he stopped being a villain (A fate sadly beheld by MANY classic Marvel and DC villains!). In the first Thanos series (I liked the Keith Giffen issues quite a bit.) he wasn't really all that villainous. I personally prefer him in his prime as a villain (In Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos Quest, Starlin's Surfer run, etc.), albeit one who is still in love with Death (What's her current status, by the way?). I think that he's lost a lot of his luster and that he's been watered down a little bit too much. Again, this happens to many (Maybe most.) popular villains. But then back to the status quo. How do you view Thanos and prefer him to be written?

That's also why Doom doesn't work either IMO. ![]()

I prefer that he be a villain in the end honestly. I find Starlin's take on him to be a bit dull anymore and have preferred other versions since his classic stories. That said, I am for complex villains, I just am not as big on him being a heroe or anti-hero or whatever he would be. Look Raist bunnies...

Subject: IMO, after the story of the Infinity Gauntlet (1991, 27 years ago), both he & Warlock were beyond morality and still are. [Re: Comicguy1] Posted Fri May 25, 2018 at 06:22:10 am CDT (Viewed 763 times)

Starlin was evolving Thanos. Thanos starts as a nihilistic death worshipper ready to kill everything and seek ultimate power....only to lose it when he had the Cube and then later the infinity Gauntlet. After Marvel: The End, Thanos again had ultimate power and had to give it up to restore everything. He then sat and began to rethink his life and all that he has done. He then decides to start on the path of redemption, which for him is a LONG PATH to walk. Then Starlin and Marvel disagree about things and Starlin leaves. Years later Starlin returns and basically writes the "Starlin-verse" version of Thanos and Warlock, while Marvel writes the main universe version. The starlin-verse version finally found inner peace and accepted that he is indeed the agent and lover of Death and she apparently loves him again. He still acts to save the cosmos and Warlock is along to aid him and keep an eye on him. Now once again, Marvel and Starlin have had a spat and Starlin is leaving again......

He is best seen to me as being a Cosmic version of Dr Doom, as one who is really evil at times, but who in their own minds are doing what needs to get done. As in movie, Thanos saw the Universe needed to get bbalanced per his view, and he alone had power an dwill to make it happen!
