Subj: Family of Rogues Review *SPOILERS*

The Review contains spoilers! You’ve been warned...

This marks the fifth total appearance of Captain Cold since the character showed up four times in the first season and once this season (thus far). Am I only one getting tired of seeing this guy? Obviously, he is a popular character (why else would he show up so much?). Don’t get me wrong, I like Captain Cold and the actor that plays him does an awesome job. But when I saw we were going to get yet another episode focusing on Captain Cold, again, I practically rolled my eyes. Haven’t we seen enough of this guy? Evidentaly not since he keeps showing up like a bad cold (pun intended). Since Captain Cold and Heatwave are moving to Legends of Tomorrow, hopefully this marks the last appearance of the character on the Flash. I am tired of him hogging the spotlight that would be better off showcasing a character we haven’t seen before. First, it was simply Captain Cold, then it was Snart and Heatwave, then it was Snart and his sister and now it's Captain Cold's own dad. Who’s next to show up, Captain Cold’s mother?! Let’s move on to other characters PLEASE.

Then there is Iris’s mother who has been gone for twenty years. While it is awesome we fans get to see her, I cannot shake the feeling she is only here as filler to take up precious time because the writers ran out of ideas for this episode. And what is worse, she gives the excuse that she was not ready to raise a daughter and now she is? Like Joe said, it is too late and Iris is a grown woman now. I think dear old mom needs to come up with a better reason why she wants to be a part of Iris’s life all of a sudden. I am all for forgive and forget so it will be interesting to see where this little side plot will take us.

Patty Spivot...oh, why do I get the feeling that by the end of the season she is going to come to a bad end. Not sure exactly why I get that feeling but it’s there. I hope I am wrong because I like her character and her enthusiasm. It is refreshing to have on this show and I hope she sticks around for a while. And finally, we see her with her hair down! She looks great.

CONTINUITY ERROR! In a conversation with Caitlyn, Jay says the particle accelerator exploded and he says it in the context of his Earth. Ok, so if we saw Earth-2 Dr. Wells with a fully intact S.T.A.R. Labs then that means the particle accelerator did not explode because his work was a success not a failure but Jay says the particle accelerator did explode. I think we have our first continuity error people.

The episode as a whole, along with it’s story, is average at best mixed in with a few small bits of good things added in for flavor. Having Snart’s dad show up was just a convenient way to get Captain Cold on the Flash yet again. Even though I do like Michael Ironside, I am feeling Captain Cold fatigue. If the character wasn’t slated to be a regular on Legends of Tomorrow I’d say this: either make the character a regular on the Flash or stop giving him so much air time and move on. It is high time to show other characters in the DC universe.

Speaking of characters showing up a little too much, I will never make that complaint about Jay. But I will say this, why is the actor still listed as a guest star when he’s obviously sticking around? Maybe Jay has only few episodes left before his story arc ends, but given the fact Zoom is season 2‘s big bad I don’t see that happening anytime soon. So, I vote to put him as a regular and stop listing him as a guest star.

Back in season 1, Cisco is used by Snart’s sister Lisa and he ends up being burned (figuratively speaking) and from there Lisa begins a flirtatious relationship with Cisco who does not seem to enjoy it. But in this season we see the human side of Lisa and the flirting is all but vanished when she shows vulnerability because she thinks her brother is in danger. In the end, Cisco helps Lisa and the two part ways after Lisa makes it known she truly does like him, then kisses him. It is definately some progress in their “relationship” and hopefully this is the end of it. I like Lisa but where she goes, Captain Cold follows.

Score 1 for Cisco. \:\)

The ending! Earth-2 Dr. Wells makes it to Earth Prime! I hope he shows up for next week’s episode! I can’t wait to see if he’s going to be good or bad or perhaps morally gray. Either way, the reactions from Barry and those involved will be interesting to see.

Because of the use of Captain Cold for the 5th time, I just didn’t like this episode as much as the others so far this season. Thank goodness Snart is moving to the Legends of Tomorrow because the Flash won’t feature him so much. One can only hope. This episode gets 3 out of 5 stars.

It's interesting that a hero/villain performs one amazing feat, or use a power they haven't used for 20+ years, and that automatically propels them to a high status despite scans and evidence to the contrary. I don't know what is worse, selective feat picking that has only been done once or twice 20, or more, years ago or ignoring evidence from scans or the lack thereof. We need to stop putting our favorite heroes/villains on pedestals and start putting them where they really belong. But it's evident that people never will because they would rather accuse others of cherry picking feats, when they don't, and being 'morally superior' when they aren't. I guess being honest and as fair as possible only opens one up to being the target of childish accusations and fault finding by those who insist on acting petty and childish. What happened to a good debate between two civil, mature, adults?
