I've been hesitant to pick up the TPBs because the art in the current comic just looks so bad.

Howard Porter I find rather good, I was no fan at all of Carmine Di Giandomenico's european style when he started with the series but by the time he left last year he had developed and adapted considerably to the requirements of the character, and again, I eventually found rather good on the book.
But I do understand your unease. The Flash has always been a character who is difficult to find the right artist for as it demands someone capable of creating a particular style and technique by which to show superspeed and make that visually exciting to follow in a book - I would say that so far in the current modern era only Francis Manapul stands out as such a talent and a great fit for The Flash. In past era's we had a continuous flow of such talent on the series - Mike Weiringo, Greg Laroque, Paul Pelletier, even Paul Ryan had a certain flair for the character.

This is a character who, by nature of his abilities, demands artists of a certain flair. Amanda Connor for example would be a worthwhile choice, so too Carlos Pacheco or Pepe Larraz... whoever it is they must be exciting to look at for this character. The Flash is a character who needs lots of energy visually...

I would say since the end of Wally's ongoing series there hasn't been a lot of good art in Flash books.

The next 3 volumes worth of Flash comics...I haven't liked the art.

Reverend Meteor (I loved Paul Ryan's stuff)

Yes, the art has been very inconsistent. It doesn't help that with the bi-monthly schedule, no modern artist can seem to keep up with that so you get constant artist changes.

Manapul art was great, but his stories were lacking. I wouldn't mind him back but not writing. I like Williamson's writing for the most part.

Agreed. Which is one reason why I haven't bothered to pick up the title. Plus, from what I've been reading with online articles about the run so far, Barry has been acting like a complete and utter dick to Iris and Kid Flash by keeping secrets from them when there is no reason to keep doing that when it's, 1): Hurting them and 2): They already know and Barry STILL won't tell them the truth! And this is just the tip of the iceberg on the jerk off things Barry has kept doing to Iris and Kid Flash.

It's a wonder Kid Flash still hangs around or that Iris still cares about Barry. The man does nothing but hurt them with unreasonable lies and stubbornly refuses to tell them anything, even if it could save their lives. This is not the Barry Allen I know. The issues I have read, he's also acting a little too much like Batman with emotional angst, doubts and all this other crap that Barry is allowing to get him down. The Barry I know would be cool headed, he'd tell his secrets to the people he loves instead of being a coward about it, he wouldn't be plagued with so many doubts, he's have his head screwed on straight, etc. But this Barry is exactly the opposite of the Barry I know. It's a shame the JLA writer can actually do a better job at writing Barry than the actual writer on the Flash title. A sad shame...

I did read Flash War and that was pretty good. I finally got to see a Barry Allen I actually recognized who was smart, sensible and with his head screwed on straight. Plus, I got to see my favorite Flash (Wally West) officially prove he's faster than Barry that made me smile too. It was great seeing Howard Porter's art again. Always liked his work.

It's interesting that a hero/villain performs one amazing feat, or use a power they haven't used for 20+ years, and that automatically propels them to a high status despite scans and evidence to the contrary. I don't know what is worse, selective feat picking that has only been done once or twice 20, or more, years ago or ignoring evidence from scans or the lack thereof. We need to stop putting our favorite heroes/villains on pedestals and start putting them where they really belong. But it's evident that people never will because they would rather accuse others of cherry picking feats, when they don't, and being 'morally superior' when they aren't. I guess being honest and as fair as possible only opens one up to being the target of childish accusations and fault finding by those who insist on acting petty and childish. What happened to a good debate between two civil, mature, adults?
