Fury's been gone so long and if there was ever a setting to replace/explain Tony Stark's behavior since CW Secret Invasion might be this.

If Stark is a Skrull, Fury's grand entrance would be perfect. A savior/leader in Cap's absence?

I find it hard to find him not playing an inportant role in this with Captain America unable to.

Yes I believe so too..Nick Fury is returning with a new set of Howling commandoes. I believe they will hav to set SHEILD straight before they deal with the Skrull invasion.

This is a wild guess here but with Iron Man getting a new monthly I think Fury will appropriate the current Iron Man title due to the "Director of SHEILD" surname..

If all of this isnt set up for a new SHEILD series I dont know what is..

Well, yes. It's already been confirmed that Fury will be returning during Secret Invasion.

But Tony won't be a Skrull.

I wouldn't say clean house - maybe something more along the lines of "returning and prepared to face the Skrull invasion threat." I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel wants Fury back on the A-list and this (Secret Invasion) is a way to bring him back to some fanfare.
With a movie on deck, I doubt Stark is a skrull. If I had to guess, it'll just be that he dealt with a political threat publicly while Fury was working underground to deal with the looming threat.
I smell a SHIELD series.

The only trouble with all this talk about Fury returning is that those of us reading Captain America have seen him back for a while now. Kinda undercuts any big return to me.

I'll address multiple points in this post...

Stark is not a skrull. Besides being a really bad story, Marvel has already confirmed that Stark won't be a skrull.

I really don't see why fans, and even some characters are that suprised with Iron Man's behavior. The only thing I could see that wrong/questionable is the cloning of Thor. Cap's death wasn't his fault, registration wasn't his fault, etc.

Marvel/Bendis has said that Fury is coming back during this event. I hope Marvel (and even DC) realize that if you stop showing a character for a few months/years, their popularity increases tremendously when they eventually return. Fury, Thor, and even Moon Knight are examples of this.

I don't think Fury has really been back during Brubaker's Captain America run. His interaction has really been minimal if I remember correctly. Alot of his actions happened off panel (like talking to Bucky, giving Cap help during the Civil War).

The idea that Iron Director of Shield becomes a Nick Fury title is a good one, I doubt it will happen. I think the build up of Fury is to do the Spider-Woman title that comes out after Civil War.

Let's hope Stark is a skrull and long has been. He hasn't been the traditional, classic Tony Stark since the late 80s.

Would it be too easy to make Stark a skrull? Sure. But Bendis takes the easy way out almost every time, as did Millar in the flat CW. Complexity is not his strong point.

So Fury comes roaring back and leads the assault against the skrull take-over.

Which means CW all over again.

My totally unsubstantiated and possibly completely wrong theory - Stark has been working with Fury (sssshhhhhhhh, very hush hush) to setup the whole Civil War and the follow up, as some way to weed out the Skrulls. Stark won't be a Skrull, 'cuz it's hard to gain crossover readers from the movie when the subject in comic form doesn't match at all. Also why I think the green color will return to the Hulk prior to the movie.

I think Fury needed to be off the board for a couple of years in order to see all the pieces and make sure he himself was not picked off and replaced. He's the master war strategist and fighter, and the Invasion is a pretty big deal that he would want to make sure he dealt with his way. He's got his eyes and ears in SHIELD (Iron Man), and in case Stark is replaced, he might have setup some sort of failsafe in Tony's armor that would indicate any sort of Skrull replacement. Oh, and you KNOW there's gonna be some big reveal where Fury is looking at a great big computer screen and it lists all the Skrulls and all the regular ol'heroes. It'll be a two page splash. I'm callin' it.

I don't know how this went down, or why (for sure), or when (Fury became aware of the Invasion), but I'm not paid to write these stories (of course, I'm not paid to make wild assumptions on forums either, but...)

So since IM's getting a second book, conceivably, one of the IM could be a skrull, why the other title takes the 'Get The Real Iron Man HERE!' angle.

CW really didn't make much sense to anyone, anywhere, it seems to me, not if coming from the real IM.

As far as the Hulk, I don't think we're supposed to believe that the Red Hulk is the Green Hulk or Bruce Banner.

The Red Hulk is someone else (like General ross or Doc Samson), and seems quite popular.

So while the classic Green Hulk will no doubt be back shortly, I don't think that means the Red Hulk will turn green or disappear. He'll probably continue to dominate the 'Hulk' title.

I already prefer the back-to-basics Red Hulk to the Green, who, for me, didn't really survive WWH.
