So I hit up the LCS today for Thor, Daredevil and Captain America. I also grabbed Kick Ass, essentially because I liked the name and was looking for something a little different than my norm - and i'm a JRjr fan. But a little book on the shelf caught my eye - and I know it came out a while ago, but there was the Iron Man Demon in a Bottle tpb. Now, i'm in Iron Man lockdown...but this is a classic storyline that I havent fully read and it was on sale for 3 bucks. 3 measley bucks. I had to get it.

It got me to thinking about my dislike for current Iron Man and Spider-Man stories and characterization/interpretation. I know the interweb wasn't in vogue back in those days of IM's alocoholism - but I wonder how much people disliked Marvel taking a prominent character and doing something as controversial as that? I remember at the time, I thought it was great. What better foe for a hero to fight than something inside himself? Today, that storyline is essential in Tony Stark's character. Then I think to today and how something as simple as his current stories have driven me to write complaints. Don't get me wrong - in trying to bring back my very young 80's mindset, I think I still would feel the same about Tony's literary actions of today. And the SHRA in general. God knows I hated the Clone Saga too (in the 90's). I quit the Spidey books for a time (I eventually got the missed issues of Amazing and found that, knowing the eventual outcome, I could better appreciate that chapter in the character's life).

Any of you driven to write Marvel in protest (in lieu of posting on a message board back in the day) or to generally complain about something that eventually became heralded as a classic storyline? Ever read something about character handling that really pissed you off?
