I got back into comics after a long hiatus and noticed this change from the original OHOTMU.

Does anyone here know why Marvel started to use the grids in the OHOTMU?

When did they start using them?

Because of fan request.

With the most current iterations of the Handbooks, which began, I think, in 2004.

I remember power grids from the old trading cards, from like 1991 to 1994. Are those grids considered canon at all, or should the new handbook grids be considered the final say on a character's abilities?

The trading cards are not cannon and yes, the ones from the Handbooks should be.
