Subj: Patience and stealth - How I read Marvel Posted: Thu Jun 26, 2008 at 05:00:03 am CDT (Viewed 97 times)
I am now reading New Avengers for the first time - because Bendis says Secret Invasion is what he's been building up to these past four years and I'm taking him at his word. I have no intention of buying back issues or TPB's. I am now reading Thor - having begun my ordering at Westfield Comics with issue 9 - because I got the impression that with issue 9 the return of Asgard would be pretty much finished and JMS would start telling stories about good guys and bad guys again. I bought the back issues and went through them in two sittings over two evenings, which is the only way I can tolerate the molasses pacing these issues had. I'm not reading Captain America yet but plan to return when Steve Rogers does. I have no intention of buying the back issues or TPB's. How do I read Marvel? By patience and stealth. I monitor developments via these message boards and when a book seems to be reaching a point that seems tolerable to me, I start buying. I waited for JMS to leave Amazing Spider-Man and then started ordering. I have no intention of buying back issues or TPB's. In fact I have no intention of buying the book at all any more, since BND Spidey is a dork and dorks are unappealing to me. Pre-BND JMS/JoeQ/Jenkins Spidey was also a dork, as evidenced by his decision to reveal his identity on TV, and that was one reason (among others) I stayed away then also. In my opinion the real Peter Parker is a lot like me - and I'm not a dork. By patience and stealth I read Marvel. How about you?
