Just Wondering......

For some reason this gets deleted all the time on the avengers board.....but i was wondering, as many people claim the New Avengers doesn't feel like an Avengers book, what would you call it instead? Bearing in mind that changing the name of the current Marvel 'it' book may affect the avengers franchise, how would you handle it? Keep the name Avengers in the title or take a risk and call it something else?

I agree. It's not an Avengers book. It's just an anchor book for the latest crossover from Bendis and company. I'm so tired of Black Reign I could vomit.

I miss the Avengers and I'm afraid a free standing Avengers title will never appear again because no one has the talent to write a book that can stand on it's own anymore at Marvel. Every book is simply a reactionary tale to current crossover bullshit.

yah....anytime I say the New Avengers sit around Steve Rogers kitchen waiting for ninjas and z-list villains to attack my post gets deleted. That big Dark avengers thread where people were getting steamed got to go on. Yet that one sentence I type seems to set off some kind of alarm that it needs to be deleted ASAP! I like Bendis alot, but he doesn't seem to understand what being an Avenger is.

And too answer your question. I'd of just called it Defenders. The quality of teh creative team and the characters would still make this Marvels top book...easily. I like my Avengers going into space or fighting the Masters of Evil. Not sitting around the breakfast nook watching TV and calling each other by their first names in every sentence.

Def not an Avengers book. It seemed like it was going in the right direction after SI with the inclusion of Mockingbird and Ms. Marvel. but then the October solicits hit....AGAIN the team is fighting the Hood! What is that? over 2 yrs of New Avengers in a row focusing on that guy (with teh exception of the 8 issue or so break for SI...even then he was in some of them). This book exists to set off teh next company wide x-over it seems.

Though I have a feeling Bendis is going to end Dark reign with a return of the big 3 as a core for New Avengers....heres hoping!

I could not agree with you 2 more!!! You are right..this is a Defenders book without them calling it that. And you are correct...Bendis is in love with the Hood for keeping him around for this long. And taking away the title of Sorcerer Supreme from Dr. Strange and giving it to Brother Voodoo???? That is for sure a Defenders level charecter and NOT and Avenger. Also...when both Luke and Danny were in the book you could have just as easily called it Heroes for Hire.

Bendis' New Avengers is really just a nostalgic 1970's revival. He's filled the roster with characters who haven't had their hey-day since the 70's (Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Brother Voodoo). In fact, he reminds me a lot of Quentin Tarantino - both obsessed with 1970's pulp, both think ninjas and samarai are cool, both play a lot with trying to modernize 70's blaxploitation characters.

It always kills me when I see some posts complaining about 1980's nostalgia when their poster-child of modern comics (BMB) is influenced (in my opinion) by nostalgia that goes back even farther.

I don't buy New Avengers but Marvel won't take a chance on changing the title just because some fans feel like it doesn't fit with their definition of what an Avengers title should be. These days the name "Avengers" sells so why mess with it?

When I collected the title it felt like "Luke Cage, his bitchy wife, and friends."

As far as the Avengers board deletions go...never assume all boards are moderated the same. Most here are excellent. Others aren't.
