Ignition indeed! This issue was pure awesomeness. For anyone who has been a fan of Thanos, Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Quasar, Gladiator, The Inhumans... and even older Starlin stuff, this one had it all - plus a last-page shocker which is truly a "resurrection" done right. I was expecting the Magus to be the big-bad of this series, but boy was I wrong!
With all the Avengers and X-Men stuff getting so much attention, I forgot all about the Thanos Imperative, but sweet Jesus, it was so much better than I expected it to be. Pick it up if you haven't.

totally agree! seeing thanos' rampage was totally awesome, and seeing the guardians begin to split over what to do with thanos will make for interesting storytelling.
and wow...i was very surprised to see that character return at the end!
major spoilers ahead......

Captain Mar-Vell??! crazy! the fact that he came out of nowhere and killed the magus (he did get incinerated, right?) just totally came out of left field but worked! definitely looking forward to this series. honestly never read captain marvel much but i sm interested to see how this plays out.

Too early to know, but my guess is alternate universe. Although, from the way he was talking, he has the same nobility but with an alternate purpose. He said something like, "A universe where people can still die. This will be interesting." Being a champion of Life sounds great, and I can see a noble guy like Mar-Vell thinking it's what he should do. It's interesting that in this event, our heroes will be championing the cause of Death in order to maintain the universal balance.

It was a very good kick off to the latest cosmic event. The last page reveal caught me by surprise but who else would be the leader of a Marvel "Cancerverse"? Hopefully this will ignite(pun intended)interest in the cosmic line and the cosmic titles will continue is some way/shape/form after this mini.

Yeah this was awesome!
I was surprised by Mar-vell as well!
Frickin' awesome.
I'm thinking that the reason Magus was fried was to make room for the return of Adam.

The story reeked of awesomeness and it shows that Dan Abnett can consistently deliver one major league cosmic event after another and still keep it fun, action packed and interesting. I think too that one of his strengths is to make all these characters so interesting and fun to follow.
Considering what is coming and who he loves, it may very well be that Thanos is going to head up the team that has to fight the Cancerverse.
Cancerverse. I love that name.

Subject: Best part of the MU last few years IS the cosmic titles [Re: Unstable Molecule] Posted Sun May 30, 2010 at 10:27:30 am EDT (Viewed 148 times) |

Its too bad Marvel cant promote their great cosmic books (Nova, GotG) more and develop more of a following for them. These books by Abnett and Lanning have been some of the best stuff about the MU the last few years, and for me, the most consistently well written and plotted books over their tenure. In fact, everything that we are seeing in the Thanos series is as a result of the seeds they have sown over the last several years.
