Subject: Recomendations for Kingpin Posted Fri Apr 26, 2013 at 11:28:55 am EDT (Viewed 17 times) |

Hi, I recently found all my old comic books and have become OBSESSED XD I've developed a love for the character of the Kingpin and want to read more However, I am a bit confused as to where to start. I read a few of the amazing spiderman issues where the Kingpin is introduced but I'm really looking for the best stories involving him. I've always stuck to spiderman I read that Frank Miller really made the character his own in the 80's Daredevil comics and I'm intruiged to see this version but I really don't know where to begin and I'm wary about going away from good o'l spidey!! I'm new to this really so I was looking for a graphic novel as oppose to seperate issues that's easy to find and avalible cheaply in the uk? I tried watching the film of Daredevil but I really didn't like this interpretation of the character XD Thanks ![]()

The Gang War crossover in the mid-1980s of Spider-Man and Daredevil were really good. Can't remember the issues #s off the top of my head, but you should be able to google it. Kingpin had his own series (short) in the early 2000s that wasn't too bad. The original Kingpin appearances from the 1960s were awesome and were somewhere in the #40s-60s. Hope that helps a little.

Is probably his most famous storyline, and is regarded as the best Daredevil storyline, as well as one of the finest Marvel storylines ever published. The Kingpin finds out Daredevils secret identity (I believe that this was a rarity in those days.), and systematically goes about destroying his life and trying his best to "break" Matt. Although the Kingpin is a little bit too sadistic and monstrous in this one, read it. You shouldn't be disappointed. It's also really the final Daredevil storyline. If you're looking for Spider-Man only storylines with him, I would recommend Spectacular Spider-Man #100, and the preceeding issues. #100 was the first time that Peter and the Kingpin had a physical fight, and the previous issues show his love for his then wife Vanessa. There's more, but most of his best stories are in Daredevil (Like the Fall of the Kingpin storyline in issues #297-300, and Bendis wrote him very well during his Daredevil run.). I hope that helps, for starters.

They should be collected in the Essential Spectacular Spider-Man trade. I'm not sure of the number, or if they've even gotten that far in the collection yet. I'll try and Google it or look on Amazon, and send you a link. And oh yeah, definitely read Born Again. http://www.comicboards.com/php/templates/boardicons/laugh.gif And whatever other Frank Miller Daredevil you can find. He's really the one who re-invented the Kingpin, and made him the popular crimelord that he is today.
