As the title suggests, I would love to see a magical based super villain team (I am a sucker for theme based groups like Zodiac or Heavy Metal). I think it would be fun to put together a bunch of magic based baddies. The villains who I could think of to be part of a group would be:

Baron Mordo
The Enchantress
Juggernaut
Diablo
Blackout
Master Pandemonium
Black Talon

Can anyone think of any other possible villains who would be appropriate?

Xandu
Moondark
Calizuma & his Warrior Wizards
Necrodamus
Chandu
Morgane Le Fay
Dr. Glitternight
Pro-Rata.

Not bad and could make for an interesting storyline, but the problem that I see is that unlike other types of supervillains, mystical/magical villains seem to be more loner types and egomaniacs and would therefore make the storyline too short. I don't think that there would be any type of sharing of power and coordination and the team would disintegrate too quickly. Yes, I know that is supposed to be the way of villain groups, but then again, look at how long the Wrecking Crew, the Headmen, and even the core of Zemo II's Masters of Evil were together. Yeah, some minor comings and goings, but you have that with every super-team.

Oh, and you forgot two of the most powerful magical villains: Loki and Dormammu. Throw in a Zarathos and Lilith (from Ghost Rider, not Drac's daughter) and you really have quite a party there.

I'd like to see Modred the Mystic.

I would like this. Somehow I can already see it, drawn by Barry Windsor-Smith.

Baron Mordo is a must. Wouldn't be worth doing without him.

Next I would add Morgan Le Fay and Modred the Mystic.

I like Diablo a lot but I don't think he considers himself to be a magician. In his mind, alchemy is science. He probably wouldn't fit in, so I would only use him if I purposely wanted someone who didn't quite fit.

I tend to distinguish between magicians and magical beings. Doctor Strange is of course a magician, while the Scarlet Witch is a magical being; I.e., Strange had to study and train for years to become what he is, while for Wanda it all just comes naturally. I deem the Enchantress a magical being, and my own preference is to not use her, and to stick instead with magicians like Mordo, Morgan, and Modred. (Hmm. OK, that's weird, all three names start with "M" for magic.)

I wonder what other evil magicians (in my sense of the term) there are in the Marvel universe.

I wish we could use some of Conan's enemies.

I thought I knew my comics but the fact that I have no idea who those guys are shows I'm a lot more ignorant than I thought. :/

Well it's true that magic using types do tend to be maniacal self serving jerks. So a group like this would probably be a one-shot deal, a group who see the goal as being worth setting aside their egos...for five or six issues, anyway.

The matter of ego was why I left Dormammu, Loki, Dracula and Morgan Le Fey off the list, those guys usually take on teams single handedly anyway. Although Zarathos and Lilith are good additions to the team.

I wasn't sure about Spiral because I thought what she did might be Super Science.

I thought Modred was dead? Last I saw of him was in Busiek's Avengers, and Morgan le Fey had killed him. I thought she had, anyway.

Is he still in the game?

Agreed. I think the story would be pointless without his being on the team.

I responded to this below. I thought Morgan too powerful, Modred too dead. \:\)

I guess I just like Diablo so much I would want to see him on the team. Also, I like the idea of an alchemist being on the team. You have Juggernaut as muscle, Black Talon for Voodoo and/or necromancy, Baron Mordo for straight up sorcery, etc. Diablo could be there to prove to the others just how superior his ancient science is to their supernatural foolishness.

I can see Enchantress getting booted from the team, but I guess I wanted at least one woman there, and a powerful one at that. But by your definition is Morgan a magical being? She is half faerie so she already had inherent magical powers.

I'm not sure why they couldn't be used. Kulan Gath crossed over from Red Sonja to the MU to fight the X-Men and Avengers, for example.

Don't confuse him with Mordred.

Mordred is the illegitimate son of Morgause and King Arthur Pendragon.
Modred is Modred.

Modred was last seen during the Pym-led Mighty Avengers.

Ah, okay, I just Wiki'ed him.

Yeah, he might make a good member of the team. Certainly he would be a formidable wild card.

I don't think so. I wonder what modern artist would fill the same niche. I want someone whose art is not only dynamic but actually beautiful in a Pre-Raphaelite way.

Dead means not yet resurrected, didn't you know? \(cool\)

Plus magicians can travel time, so he could appear in the present despite being dead in the past.

Morgan is quite powerful, but we should remember that the Avengers usually encounter her after she's had plenty of "prep time" as the Battleboard would say. I bet if we gave Baron Mordo that much time, he could set up some pretty dangerous scenarios.

Your last sentence clinched it for me. In his mind, it isn't that he doesn't fit in with the others, but rather, that they don't fit in with him! Nevertheless, in the interest of a grand and devious scheme, he will tolerate their participation.

Yes, but Morgan still trained herself in magic. I don't know if the Enchantress actually did.

If we use the Enchantress, don't we have to involve Asgard somehow? Does she care about Midgard (Earth) at all? That's another reason I shied away from her. I didn't want Asgard involved. I prefer to keep Asgard isolated to the Thor comic.

And now Dynamite has him, in their Red Sonja comic. But maybe Zukala (father of Zephra) could be used. I love that guy. Far as I know, Roy Thomas invented him. I guess that makes him fair game. He could be described as an ancient sorcerer who has slept for 20,000 years. No need to mention Conan. He could even have another daughter, who reminds him of the daughter he lost long before he dropped into preternatural slumber. (I want Roy Thomas back. I used to love seeing words like "preternatural" in a comic book.) This new daughter could be a sorceress in her own right.

I used these guys as a team in a Marvel RPG once. They worked scarily well together:

Master Pandemonium
Marie LaVeau
Le Sabre
Diablo
Baba Yaga from Captain Britain
Baron Mordo
Blackheart
Dracula
