Avengers III would be his sixth film. And Steve dying was the big shockeroo of the Civil War comic book series.

Chris Evans hasn't had the personal impact Robert Downey Junior has. People like Chris Evans as Captain America but I doubt anyone went to see Cap II because they needed their Chris Evans fix. The film was a big success but Nick Fury, the Black Widow, the Falcon, and even Maria Hill were all helping to anchor it. Marvel Studios knows that, which is why Cap III will have Iron Man in it.

I can see Cap dying, and then Sam getting a moderate power-up and assuming the Cap identity.

Thoughts?

I thought the Captain America movies were better than the Iron Man ones. And I say that as someone who has never liked Captain America.

Cap's journey just seemed more interesting.

Or he could die and Bucky could take over.

I think it would be better if Cap died in a Cap movie and not an Avengers movie.

Have him show up in Thor 3 in Valhalla or Avengers 3 in Soulworld or something to round out the 6 movie deal.

I didn't like the second or third Iron Man films.

I liked both Cap films so far and I consider the second Cap film to be as fun as any superhero film ever made, including the two Avengers films.

The Iron Man films rely almost entirely on Downey Junior's charisma. The second Cap film, by contrast, was very much an ensemble. I think that's a key difference.

I hope they go with Sam. The movie Bucky is tragic rather than fun.

That could work too.

I would love to see Cap in Valhalla. But I doubt we ever would. The Asgardians are being presented as aliens rather than genuine Gods. Valhalla has a theological dimension to it.

Chris Evans has declared that he'll keep playing Cap until the end of his career, he really likes the role and they extended his contract I think. Downy was only on until the first Avengers movie originally but by all that is Stan he's gonna ride that pony into the ground (I agree with the op, the Cap movies are the best and Winter Soldier raised the bar imo and the 2nd and 3rd IM movies just went down hill.)

I was just watching Age of Ultron again and the biggest thrill for me in that movie are the Cap scenes, he just does such a good job.

If he gets Brubakered in CW or the Infinity movie I'll lose a lot of interest in the movies that follow. AoE didn't do for Avngers what Winter Soldier did for Cap:First Avenger. It went backwards rather than forwards.

I'm cool with that. I think he owns the role every bit as much as Downey Junior owns his.

I like Downey Junior in the Avengers films better than in his own. He benefits greatly from having so many strong characters to play against.

The Hulk scenes are always great too. And I was fascinated by the Vision.

I don't feel the Avengers franchise went backwards, but I can't really say it advanced either, except in so far as we got some additional team members. Also, I think the film advanced Iron Man's story line. He obviously is obsessed with figuring out how to realistically protect the Earth. We haven't gotten the slightest inkling of that from his own films. The plot thread only exists in the Avengers films until, presumably, Cap III, when Iron Man's obsession will presumably put him at odds with Cap.

Also, Cap II had a huge impact on Agents of SHIELD. Neither the Iron Man films nor the Thor films had anywhere near such an impact. I predict Cap III will likewise have a huge impact on Agents of SHIELD.
