An engaging DD storyline [as evidenced by strong sales: https://www.comicboards.com/php/show.php?rpy=smb-2021013121472569&layout=thread9] and his 2 years prison sentence is unfotrunately interrupted by a uninspired attack by symbio-pawns of Knull and the KiB Event. As is oft the case, it's a shame this title is disrupted and diminished by a mandatory company crossover. We don't even get a proper Recap Paragraph with the Title Page https://abload.de/img/1611744295688t7kgv.jpg to explain this goopy mess to dedicated exclusive readers. It's not even clear if the alien Klyntar aren't typically afraid of fire, that is Typhoid's power, or she just never got a good shot off. Have the lack/change of Kryptonite Weaknesses of symbio-pawns been formally addressed in-story in another crossover yet?

Inmate Marcus and Warden Hollis were dull here. The Crime-Wave v1#59 https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Daredevil_Vol_1_59 footnote was welcome. Kingpin and Wesley gave us nothing but recycled chronologically-challenged status quo. Was this before Fisk's Thunderbolts #1 team? Alice and her mom were underwhelming as new fodder characters. And neutered Elektra(as DD) was predictable.

The art was okay. DD possessed seemed the inevitable superhero fail for a cliffhanger. Was DD ever a symbiote host before? And the next issue promise is a Marvel hero clash between Venom Vs Daredevil! ...*koff* Well, really Venom(Typhoid possessed) Vs Daredevil(Elektra filling-in).

I think the issue selling out has more to do with the new status quo, and the speculator market.

That having been said, I am actually interested in this new direction. Much of the run so far has just been having good ideas that fizzle out, or rehashing ideas I have seen before. Even Matt in prison was done before, and everyone thought he was Daredevil at the time, so whatever there.

The annual where Mike Murdock got a life was the most entertaining where I am concerned, because it was different, and actually explored things.

However, I never read many solo Elektra stories, so they can rehash all they want, and it will still be new to me. If nothing else, her interactions with DD's rogue's gallery or other heroes would be interesting. Certainly different than if we had more followed Iron Fist in Brubaker's run.

Not to mention just what Mike Murdock will be like as he fills in for Matt. He is more or less a blank slate for possibility.

However it seems pretty obvious Matt will return in #666, and either Elektra or Mike Murdock will die at that point, given the whole Fist thing.

I'll be very let down if they go this new direction for Elektra only to have it be a typical Elektra solo. Her solo has always been her biggest problem for me. She's really not that interesting of a character.

I can count on one hand the number of Elektra solo stories I've read on one hand, and still be able flash a peace sign.

I don't remember one, one was more about the twist ending (the Frank Miller story from Bizarre Adventures), and the final one is Elektra: Assassin, which was a very interesting in idea and execution, but hardly a great character study.

So, I am not exactly inclined to disagree with you on how interesting the character is, or in this case isn't. Even in her debut story, it was the mystery and what she did to Matt that was interesting.

That having been said, I stand by the fact that at least it would be something new, at least to me. From The Punisher giving another "we aren't so different" speech, to to an attempt to destroy Hell's Kitchen, to Matt having another crisis of faith, to Mary's peaceful life being taken away again, to Elektra claiming to know the real Matt, to Matt going to prison... again, Zdarsky's run has been like a best of album performed by a cover band.

With the exception of when he had really interesting ideas that had its potential pissed away:

-Matt having D Inner at a crime boss, which could have been a Hitchcock like thriller, but was just an exposition dump.
-The fill-in Daredevils, which had barely any info given except that they exist, then no mention for many issues until they failed to save the neighborhood.
-Kingpin having to deal with power brokers who he can't beat or lean on due to their connections, only to have him lose all his dignity as they taunt him with fat jokes.


My prediction is that this new series will fall entirely on Mike Murdock, and how he is portrayed. It is the story Zdarsky did best, and it has a lot of great character potential.

But at least an Elektra story would be new to me.

I'm just skeptical about an Elektra story, because for me every one we've had so far has pretty much been the same, and I can't even feign interest. I don't want ninjas. I don't want espionage. I want justice on the streets of Hell's Kitchen. That is all.

But honestly, new is overrated. One of my frequent problems with Matt is they try to bring new things to him (your list is mostly examples of that). Filling a niche is superior, and what I'm looking for is Elektra trying to fill Matt's niche and probably failing.
