Collects Kelly Thompson's Captain Marvel issues 18-21 plus Empyre #2. This was interesting enough that it induced me to buy the Empyre TPB. I had to grit my teeth a little in the beginning, but by the end I was enjoying the Bendis-like cutesy dialogue. I never liked it when Bendis did it, but in this story I could bear it, and I know why: the most talkative characters are all female. I've never met a boy or man who talks Bendis-style. I have, however, met girls and women who do, so in this story it rang true enough to let me relax and just go with the flow. I love Carol in green. I wish she could have retained those colors permanently, but I knew it had to be temporary, and of course it was. Still, I enjoyed it while it lasted. I love the idea of the Kree and the Skrulls united in one empire. It sets up a framework for all sorts of nuanced conflict, rather than just kill-kill-kill. By the way, I guess the Skrulls still don't shape-shift, right? I didn't see any shape-shifting in this story. I didn't know Hulkling was the Emperor. Intriguing! His Sword of Space is intriguing also. I loved Carol's brief tenure as an Accuser. Anything that ties her more closely to the Kree is a positive development in my opinion. So naturally I also love the existence of Lauri-Ell. Moreover, I love Lauri-Ell's personality. She reminds me a lot of the MCU's Yelena Belova (Blonde Widow). I also love the fact that she's now an Accuser, as this, once again, ties Carol more closely to the Kree. I love Chewie. I love Hazmat. (I've loved Hazmat since Avengers: Arena and Avengers: Undercover, two TPBs written by Dennis Hopeless, which I highly recommend.) I love seeing Spider-Woman as Carol's best friend. I love Rhodey and Carol as a couple. I love this book. | ||||
