Hey, Everyone!


I want to use an example of a Ben Reilly save for the class I'm teaching on comics. There is much muddy thinking here, because the memory is 10 ears old, but...I think Ben and Pete are both embroiled in a fight somewhere high. (It may have been only Ben). A woman is knocked off the roof (or a bridge--perhaps even the GW). Ben remembers what happened to Gwen and does not simply brace himself and shoot. Instead he jumps off, then shoots a line, catches the woman, brings them both to safety. Nobody's neck snaps, nothing goes wrong. We're going to be talking about who killed Gwen tomorrow, and I want to show them this one, instead of just tell them about it. Does anybody remember what issue this is? I can't even remember if Ben does this as the SS or as Spider-Man.

I feel like I remember something along these lines from the 1995 Spider-man Holiday Special:

IIRC, there were also at least two examples in the 80's where the Gwen scene was replicated and Peter successfully used alternate tactics.

One was during the Hobgoblin Saga where the Hobgoblin tosses Sha-Shan.

The second was during the "Soul of the Spider" where Zarathos recreates the bridge scene and after Peter saves Gwen in this illusion, she turns to a harpy and flies away taunting him.

This is another variation on a theme (I used this & #125 in class because I happen to own both), but still not the one I'm thinking of. Close enough for class, though!
