There's been a lot of buzz about the Spider-Man films since Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures announced they'd work on the films together and have the same actor playing Spider-Man in his solo films guest star in Marvel Studios films.

Here's what we know so far, in terms of rumors and confirmations:

- Latino Review exclusively announced that Drew Goddard ("The Cabin in the Woods", the "Sinister Six" film) will write and direct the new film, which is rumored to be titled "The Spectacular Spider-Man".

- The members of the Sinister Six (but who they are is anyone's guess, as L.R. didn't say) will come together in the next solo Spider-Man film and if the new film is successful, plans are to do the "Sinister Six" spin-off film next. If Mr. Goddard is writing/directing a film called "The Spectacular Spider-Man", it makes sense to build them up here and then use them in a later film.

- There will be no origin this time around, as Sony/Marvel feel fans already know how Spidey got his powers and don't need/want to see the origin on-screen for a third time.

- An unknown actor maybe cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Think how then-newcomer Hugh Jackman was first cast as Logan/Wolverine for the first "X-Men". Dylan O'Brien has confirmed he will not play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but some sites are saying he's denying because he's been cast like other actors have done in the past (like Paul Rudd saying it was just "rumors" he'd be playing Ant Man and look how that turned out).

- Robert Downey Jr. may appear as Anthony "Tony" Stark/Iron Man and that the two will fight and having to pass an "audition" for Spider-Man to join the Avengers.

Reports since then claim Drew Goddard hasn't even met with Marvel and this buzz may be false. However, this is what we DO know for sure that is real:

- The new solo "Spider-Man" film will hit theaters July 28th, 2017.

- The Russo Bros. ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") have signed on a first-look deal to work with Sony Pictures and they may be involved somehow with the next "Spider-Man" movie, possibly as producers.

- It is possible the first time we see the new Spider-Man actor will be in next year's "Captain America: Civil War", but this is not confirmed yet.

- J.K. Simmons has confirmed he has been in talks to return as J. Jonah Jameson and when asked if he'd return, he said he'd love to reprise his role.

- Marvel Studios has more creative control over the Spider-Man films as part of the deal with Sony, while Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who were producers/oversaw the two "Amazing" Spidey films, have been demoted to executive producers and have no creative control/input.

- Peter Parker will be back in high school the next time we see him in a Spidey film.

- The big Marvel Studios news/announcement today was about the new "Avengers: Age of Ultron", not about any new updates on the next "Spider-Man". Sorry.

What do you guys think of all this Marvel Studios and Sony buzz about "Spider-Man"?

Have a great day, everyone.

I saw a Wall Street Journal article saying Cap 3: Civil War cameo was confirmed. But that's the only time I've seen it confirmed.

I'm just sad that the rights switcheroo means Andrew Garfield is out as Spider-Man. To me, just like Robert Downey Jr is Tony Stark and Sam Jackson is Nick Fury, Andrew Garfield is Spider-Man. He played a great Peter Parker and fit the role of Spider-Man well. And like Chris Pratt, he clearly had a hell of a time playing the role.

He played a fine Spider-Man, but I can't agree that he played a good Peter Parker. Of course, it wasn't his fault, really--he played the part that was written. That part just wasn't Peter Parker.

I'm thinking more along the lines of the first movie rather than the second. I don't think Peter has to be a recluse or a complete outcast and I thought his portrayal of the new low end of the food chain in a modern high school was a good one. I also think it makes perfect sense for him to be haunted a bit by his parents, dead under mysterious circumstances. I didn't enjoy how much the movies focused on that, but I think Peter being an orphan and it impacting him...(and really, with Uncle Ben, orphaned in a sense twice).

True, the first film at least had him closer to the character. In my rabid dislike of Amazing Spider-Man 2 I keep forgetting that I did enjoy the first one.
