Superman-related news and notes for the week of September 12, 2009: I posted this Friday. Honest. O\:\>

-----

The biggest news this week is the shake-up in the heirarchy of Warner Brothers and DC.

Diane Nelson will now serve as president of the newly formed DC Entertainment, "a new company founded to fully realize the power and value of the DC Comics brand and characters across all media and platforms," while Paul Levitz has resigned as president and publisher of DC Comics. Here are the official press releases:

- Warner Bros. creates DC Entertainment
- A letter from Paul Levitz
- A letter from Diane Nelson

--

Dc's The Source blog has revealed the cover to ADVENTURE COMICS #5, by artist George Perez in homage to an very famous Supergirl cover. Yeah, that one. They've also announced that Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul will end their ADVENTURE COMICS run after issue number six which due out in January. They've further announced that Legion legend and now-former DC president Paul Levitz will be writing the Legion portion of the book. Presumably, he will start with issue number seven, but that has not been announced.

--

Brian Cronic at Comics Should Be Good lists his choices for the Top Five Iconic Jimmy Olsen covers and Top Five Iconic Lois Lane covers.

--

The Source blog has posted previews of December Superman covers, which feature Adam Strange on New Krypton, Lois in chains, Mon-El vs. the Parsite and Supergirl vs. the Silver Banshee.

--

The tenth Superman strip from WEDNESDAY COMICS is up at USA Today's Web site.

--

The Source has three additional preview pages from SUPERMAN: SECRET ORIGIN. The first issue of the six-issue mini-series is due out Sept. 29.

--

In an interview with The Vault, Kurt Busiek mentioned he's working on "a follow-up of sorts to SUPERMAN: SECRET IDENTITY" called BATMAN: CREATURE OF THE NIGHT. There's no more information, such as whether it is a sequel-type follow up or a thematic follow up only, but Busiek goes on to say, "I'm sure we'll be talking about that more when there's some art to show."

--

Warner Bros. has released a new clip from "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies."

I don't know whether to be relieved that Geoff Johns will be unable to continue his attempts to retcon out every ounce of Kon-El's individuality and history or enraged that said character is getting tossed out of HIS OWN BOOK.

I DO know that I'm saddened to see Manpaul off of the book regardless.

Though I think it would be fair to complain about Johns's portrayal of the character, I haven't seen any evidence that Johns is retconning anything.

>or enraged that said character is getting tossed out of HIS OWN BOOK

Has this been confirmed anywhere?

For starters, Johns retconned... his start. \:\-\) Instead of being an enchanced clone of Westfield, Kon is now a clone of Superman and Luthor.

That's a pretty substantial change.

I think what he's referring to is what DiDio said:

"We're going to see Conner's, probably, gradual leave from that book. But that's not to say Conner won't be joining a team book soon, or appearing in another series of his own at some point."

Oh yeah. I was thinking of the two "Adventure Comics" stories so far.

Thanks for the info.
