Action Comics 030 vs Superman 029
The many LOVELY panels/poses with Starfire have me tempted to go with Superman but serious examination shows both books had pros and cons enough to call it a draw, ARTWISE.
STORYWISE: Action topples Superman this month. My clear disdain for all things Daemonites injected into the DC franchise and preference to the Pre52 Koriandr personality to this more toughgal version (that feels different than in The Outlaws) are possibly contributing factors of the choice. Plus, the Cat and Lois interludes were wanting even though the return of Blackfire might help next ish.
However, there really were so many fun elements to be noted from Action #30...
• Intriguing and mysterious prologue/devlopment with the Q-Ratings monster that is Doomsday.
• International sites included and insightful COUNT TO TEN advice cleverly observed.
• Awesome title page layout. Properly imposing (first?)view of The Tower. Cover context detail w/the missiles.
• Established freeze tactics/logic continued.
• Brilliant meeting between Kal and Harrow. Their POV debate was so entertaining as a draw. She's comes across as rhetorically skilled as Luthor himself. Although, there has got to be flaw in her arguments too... doesn't there?
• "AND I DON'T EVEN TRUST MYSELF TO SPEAK FOR FEAR OF DESTROYING EVERYTHING WITHIN A MILE" was such a poetic thought and so very believable especially with the build up of anger from last issue.
• ...okay, she's badass superpowered TOO. Luthor ain't got that! And she's toying with the dead. Okay, she's just as badguy as Lex.
• Superman fighting on with 'spears' sticking thru his body - y'don't see that everyday!
• A sympathetic villaness. Sympathetic is usually more engaging to read, Mr. Helspont.
• He still counts to ten. They still continue their thought provoking argument when the dust settles. Good stuff.
Consolation prize: Superman-with-Starfire win the battle of the covers.
I miss Dad and Dan.
