I was hoping for something new, but it is still pretty cool. It looks good cleaned up and with new colors.

Interesting... I was just about to say the same thing, with regards to this being an old promo-shot that they re-used.

I wonder how come Walt didn't draw a new pic...? If they asked him permission to use this one and all. ( or maybe they didn't have to ask him, since it's already been used in the 80's...)

Anyways, excellent work on the wind in the background there. That stuff takes a lot of time to get just right. \=\)

....:-)
It's funny because before Walt's run started I was never that much into Thor. I thought he was cool and all in the Avengers but in those days I was more of a fan of the Avengers  as big John used to draw the book with Goliath ( Clint ), BP, Vision, SW & Quicksilver. I think it was only during the first Arkon story with the Enchantress IIRC issue #85 that I started to like Thor much more and realised just how powerful and a big gun he was to the team ( I didn't really read the Stan & Jack Thor issues then  as they were too hard to get hold of and I also had to beg my parents for pocket money to buy comics which were always US reprints from newsagents in London. ).
Anyway,  as I casually picked up Thor #336 in the newsagent and skipped thru the issue I saw this image at the end of the letters column page saying " NEXT ISSUE:  THOR UNLEASHED !!!!  By Walt Simonson"  This really got my curiousity ,  I picked up #337 and the rest is history, everything blew me away about how "different" Thor was by Walt.

And as they say,: " The rest is history" because I haven't looked back since that day as far as Thor is concerned.

I remember I was about 13 when I bought a job lot of comics from Brick Lane, which included Thor 309, 323 and most importantly 337 & 338. It was 337 which really got me into Thor. Fortunately for me the current issue at the time was 349 so I managed to get in just as the Surtur saga was about to kick into high gear.

I used to go to Forbidden Planet once a week when i was at secondary school, when it was in Denmark Street. It had a much more counter culture feel back then than what comics do today. Comics felt almost subversive back then. very far from the mainstream.

i was already buying thor daily for years, but before 337, the books just didn't seem so great. i did love the simonson run, but i was still disappointed in a little way. when i saw the add for "thor unleashed!" i expected, THOR UNLEASHED! i wanted thor to be more aggressive and really take charge. go in fighting with no holds-bar! just using his powers to the fullest!

has anyone played the star wars game THE FORCE UNLEASHED!? the jedi is totally unleashed and goes all out using his force to fight opponents. using the force no other jedi's have used before. that's the THOR UNLEASHED i wanted to see. heh...thor still hasn't been "unleashed" like the way i wanted. but still consider the simonson run the best after lee and kirby.

Thor #182 was my first Marvel Comic. The art team of John Buscema and Joe Sinnott reached thru my eyes and electrified my brain. This story lead into the Infinity Saga, which was no small potatoes either (as sagas go). By the time Colletta (bleh) took over inks at issue #196, I was thoroughly addicted. For another 100 plus issues, I was a faithful collector, as the art and stories became worse and worse. The pure crapfest of #300 forced me, with great anguish, to stop buying "Thor".

And then #337 reached thru my eyes and electrified my brain! I feel lucky to have had such a jolt twice. The second time, however, it didn't take 100 issues. When Simonson left, I was gone!
