Subj: S.W.O.R.D. #9 & #10: Alphas and Omegas...

Finally. Revisiting James MacDonald Hudson as Guardian and getting (albeit vague) status reference to the Original (and best) Alpha Flight was welcome and overdue. Of course it also meant yet another member of the OG Canadian Superteam has been pimped out to foreign powers...

> THE SHI’AR IMPERIAL GUARD VS… THE LEGION?! With Abigail Brand’s attention divided between two S.W.O.R.D. stations, all ORCHIS needs is to pick their moment to strike. Meanwhile, the Shi’ar Empress Xandra is making her first formal visit to the Lake Hellas Diplomatic Ring...and stepping into the gunsights of the all-new LETHAL LEGION!

AFSS (peevingly) stole the name Alpha Flight. Ex-AFSSers Beaubiers have defected to Krakoa. Ex-AFSSers Puck & "Samsquath" choose fugitive loyalties as part of the (effectively STOLEN name) Gamma Flight. The Twoyoungmens seem to spend most of their time with drinking buddies at The Bar With No Doors. *Sheesh*, does that mean only hybrid-Canadians Narya and Marrina remain to be recruited away from the Great White North next? And now, Jimmy chooses to join international(?) ORCHIS! Oh Canada, *Sigh*! Gyrich implies that the "old" Alpha Flight are clearly defunct, right? Maybe Mac's moling undercover since he does challenge Gyrich's anti-mutant/alien-shaming sentiments (which would be welcome but redundant in hindsight). We can't really say about his insulting decision to join since his prologue introduction this new space opera here goes nowhere - as of yet.

As for the rest of the ish, shock ending \(yes\) , supersized lightning earrings \(no\) , and a big fight "to-the-pseudo-deaths" with resurrectable C-List Krakoans and recyclable Superguardian C-opies versus a datapage-friendly NEWbie Lethal Legion? This online review pretty much reflects my take on this ish:

And yesterday's book...

> STATION DOWN! As Storm battles the Lethal Legion on Mars, there are explosive problems on the Peak – as the mole in S.W.O.R.D. is revealed! Meanwhile, Wiz Kid and Cable find themselves face-to-face with the one foe they never expected! And where is Abigail Brand?

Mixed feelings with this week's installment, too. The spotlight on Wiz Kid and Old Man Cable was more expositional than last week's Gryich and Guardian. The same big fight drama (with be-all-end-all Ω Storm) increases exponentially - which also means more clones(*Ugh*). The shock ending increases by comparison, too - or is that "decreases" for this brand scenario ;\) ?
