'Runs' as in a run on the title rather than what happens when you eat too much curry.

Anyway, which writer has had the best run on the Avengers, or which particular era was the best in your opinion?

What did you think of Busiek's run on Volume 3?
Was Geoff Johns a worthy successor?
What do you think of Bendis' work on New Avengers?

...Steve Englehart had. Great job with Vision, Scarlet Witch, Mantis, Swordsman, and Beast in his first early to mid-100s run, and his West Coast 1-40 run is vastly underrated. He wrote Iron Man, Mockingbird, Tigra, Wonder Man, and especially Hawkeye very well...each character progressed nicely over the course of those 40 issues.

Kurt was the last hurrah of the classic Avengers, with the twin mini-series of Avengers Forever and JLA/Avengers as his cornerstones.

Johns built up a lot of stuff without much followthrough, especially the Zodiac and his Falcon stuff. His run reminds me of Larry Hama's in the early 90s- decent enough start, but he bailed out way too early to do anything memorable.

I love the classic Avengers, but actually appreciate what Bendis has done. I'll take Spidey, Cage, and Wolverine written decently over the dreck that Chuck Austen was throwing at us before then...people forget how much the title had tanked in the 2 or 3 years previous to Bendis coming on.
