Not much worse than saying he was a living cosmic cube (and much *better* than saying he's a curly-headed dude in Saturday Night Fever togs), but I liked it better when he was just this big honkin' unknowable god-like thing from beyond wherever. It kind of takes the edge off of it to think that it was a rogue Inhuman who kicked powered-up Dr. Doom's ass.

And why would a rogue Inhuman find the heroes and villains so mysterious as to want to play the game in the first place.

RETCONS BLOW. They ruined Phoenix, and they ruined Hobgoblin. Now they're re-ruining the Beyonder.

And by the way, someone forgot that Prof. Xavier wasn't in his wheelchair during "Secret Wars."

.......how does that even make sense? That's as crazy as the idea that Galactus and all the other cosmic entities took a dive, and aren't really less powerful than the Beyonder.

> RETCONS BLOW. They ruined Phoenix,

Eh, Your Alien Hero never cared for anything Phoenix in the first place. That may be one of the few "big" retcons I have any tolerance for. Maybe because it that was the way it was when I first ever heard of her, but reading the Phoenix stories just left me preferring non-cosmic Jean Grey.

> and they ruined Hobgoblin.

How I miss the days when Hobgoblin was one of the core members of the Spider-Man rogues gallery, part of the Sinister Six, and guaranteed to appear on a yearly basis. Killing him to bring back the mystery-over-personality original, and simultaneously managing to make the original suck, destroyed the Hobgoblin, to the extent of being persona-non-grata.

But The Internets love it, without even realising/comprehending/acknowledging it's why they never see Hobgoblin stories anymore.

> Now they're re-ruining the Beyonder.

Well, in fairness, Englehart ruined the Beyonder in the 1980s with that 'cosmic cube' stuff. Like every other usage of the Beyonder ever since, this counts as "really not helping", and the continuous insistance on missing the original concept/point of the character makes one wonder why anyone keeps using the name?

In comparison, while making a line-wide crossover out of the concept was stretching it far further than it warranted, I can't really oppose "the Beyonder takes on human form to experience life" as a plot, because it at least fits the original concept.

And because we got Spider-Man teaching him how to use the toilet.

> And by the way, someone forgot that Prof. Xavier wasn't in his wheelchair during "Secret Wars."

He was in #1, as I recall.

But let us at least celebrate what the Beyonder once was, and remember his greatest moments here. Outside of the above moment with Spider-Man, Your Alien Hero's going with him using Klaw to manipulate Doom, and creating an entire planet out of pieces of other worlds. And calling it Battleworld. That's awesomeness.
