It was really quite foul - especially the treatment of Carol, and the way the Avengers reacted to it, one of their biggest moments of shame... especially since I'm a huge Carol fan (lovin her new series)... jeez, if ya want to put a character off in limbo - there's no need to treat them so appaulingly (IMO)
