Heck, just look at the Secret Empire and Black Lama stories of 1970s Marvel.

Frankly, I think comics should have the guts to do more stories like this.

The Legend of LIONMAN and the Seven Kurodos
Experience The Bijou

I was like 12 years old when the secret empire story ran in the 70's. Even though we had no idea about politics, my friends and I all knew that the man who committed suicide in the oval office was suppose to be Richard Nixon. Not an alien impersonating him, not an evil robot. The real Richard Nixon. That story didn't break any headlines and Secret Service agents didn't rain down on Marvel. Bush being a skrull is no big deal. Shoot it might even be an improvement. The big question is did the skrull take him before his second term started? If so "W" would be eligible for re-election.
