So Tony Stark, Hank Pym and Reed Richards are Democrats and Peter Parker, Logan. and Luke Cage are Republicans? Boy was I off. Thanks for straightening that out.

The sorry fact of American politics today is that neither party truly represents "the people" any longer. In the fictional Marvel world, despite claims of being a more "real" depiction of super heroics, the political lines are very well defined, unlike our real world.

I believe Tony Stark is intended to be a Republican while Reed Richards is intended to be a Democrat. If they existed in our real world, both of these things would likely remain true.

The Marvel Black Widow reads like a Republican to me, but given her upbringing and backstory would almost certainly be a liberal, if not a Democrat.

The intention for Spiderman to be a Democrat within Marvel is obvious, what with his selflessness and put everyone else first attitude, but in the real world, I can't believe he would be anything but a libertarian (minus the legalized drugs crap)or at least a Reaganite. His self sufficiency and ability to overcome anything with hard work and dedication is everything the Republicans SAY they are about.

Luke Cage reads like and would be a Democrat. But in the 1950's train of thought. I think most of the present crop of Democrats (and some Republicans also)would fear him and his ideology more than anyone else.

The one true Captain America is obviously intended to be a Democrat leaning centrist. A real world version would be savvy enough to not let his politics become common thought to the masses or his friends because he would respect how much weight his beliefs would have with those of us who only (and continue to)see him as a symbol and icon, not a man. Or even a hero.

A real world Bucky would eat a bullet inside of two weeks when he realizes how unprepared humans are to carry the true weight of that shield.

PS For the record, I was a Reaganite Republican until Bush senior reversed his position on taxes. I voted Libertarian last election, and was leaning toward Ron Paul this year until all the anti-semetic stuff started coming out. While I can't bring myself to consider voting for him in November, John McCain is the only remaining candidate I respect at all.

PPS Sorry for the long post.
