I agree... I started reading the Avengers back in '68, and Pym (as Goliath) was my favorite. A combination of brilliance and brawn, not to mention, easily the most visually stiking character on the team at that time.

I HATED the Yellowjacket persona when he first came along, and Shooter's extended drag-through-the-mud cemented YJ's place as my least favorite version of Pym. And the mud stuck: Thor and Iron Man have killed fellow Avengers, Quicksilver tried to kill EVERYONE on the Avengers and WCA teams, the Vision has betrayed the Avengers more times than we can count, but those crimes are forgotten by the next issue... while YJ slapping Jan has defined the character since then.

Despite Pym's triple dose of this kind of crap in "The Ultimates," maybe all that's finally starting to change, but I'd still love to see Pym go back to being Goliath (perhaps in honor of Bill?)... instead of "Giant Yellowjacket Man," as in "The Initiative."

Sometimes this has been a mere shift in attitude and other times it was a literal shift in identity, but regardless, it was someone who is not the person Hank Pym was meant to be. Not to mention the memories of "wife beating" that people seem to have connected to the name and costume.

...my first two issues were 59 and 60 and at that time YJ just seemed to be an ephemeral state of Hank. At that time Hank, Jan and Hawkeye were THE Avengers for me, I did not even know then that Cap, Thor and Iron Man were members, although I knew the characters. Well, the costume stuck, and what Shooter did disgusted me although I did not learn it but years later (this was my 15 years or so hiatus from Marvel). Well, I liked what Byrne und Thomas in WCA and Harras in Avengers were doing with the character again, and I think one of the costumes that fit your description is the Giant-Man costume of Epting. I would like Hank in a combined scientist / size changing character role, and I would like him with Jan again. All they would need would be a good writer (like David or Waid f.i.).
